Full job description
We’re looking for an exceptional Founder’s Associate to work directly with Akara’s founders as we scale the company across Ireland and the US.
This is not a traditional operations or administrative role. You’ll sit at the centre of the company and take ownership of the priorities that matter most at any given time — whether that means helping us win and deploy a new hospital customer, preparing for a fundraise, hiring exceptional people, improving how the company operates, or spending several weeks in California helping drive our US expansion.
The role will change as Akara changes. We’re looking for someone who enjoys that ambiguity, learns quickly and has the judgement to take a loosely defined problem and drive it through to completion.
You’ll work across customers, technology, fundraising, hiring, marketing and company operations, with direct exposure to the decisions involved in building and scaling an international technology company.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys that variety and gets satisfaction from making things happen.
Applicants must hold the necessary citizenship, visa, or employment permission to work in Ireland and be able to travel regularly to the United States.
What you will do:
Your priorities will change as the company grows, but you can expect to work across areas including:
- US expansion & customers: Spend significant time in the US working with prospective and existing hospital customers, supporting deployments, demonstrations and relationships, and coordinating closely with our commercial and engineering teams.
- Founder priorities & special projects: Take ownership of important projects that cut across the company, turning loosely defined founder priorities into clear actions and making sure they actually happen.
- Fundraising & strategic relationships: Support investor outreach, fundraising processes, decks, communications and the network of investors, advisors and partners around Akara.
- Building the team: Help us find, recruit and onboard exceptional people and improve the systems and processes that support the team as we scale.
- Company storytelling: Turn ideas into excellent presentations, customer materials, website content and communications, and help Akara show up well at major conferences, meetings and events.
- Building better systems: Use AI, automation and new tools to eliminate repetitive work and build scalable ways of operating as the company grows.
There will also be plenty that doesn't fit neatly into any of these categories. That's part of the role.
What we're looking for:
There isn't one conventional background for this role. You may have worked at an early-stage startup, in consulting, venture, product or operations — or you may have founded something yourself.
What matters more is how you operate.
You are exceptionally high-agency. Give you an unclear problem and you'll figure out what needs to happen, find the right people and keep pushing until it's done.
You're equally comfortable talking to a hospital executive, working through a problem with an engineer, building a polished investor deck and jumping in to solve something practical when the company needs it.
You are:
- Exceptionally organized and reliable.
- Highly ambitious and looking for significant responsibility early.
- A strong communicator who can represent Akara externally.
- Creative, with a strong eye for design and communication.
- Extremely comfortable with technology and AI tools.
- Someone who looks for opportunities to automate and improve how work gets done.
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity and changing priorities.
- Willing to travel frequently between Ireland and the US and spend extended periods in the US when required.
Previous startup experience is valuable but not essential. We would be particularly interested in hearing from people who have previously founded or helped build an early-stage company, including in healthtech, medtech or healthcare.
If you eventually want to found another company, run a business or become a senior operator at a high-growth startup, this is an opportunity to see almost every part of building one from the inside.
At Akara, we value:
Ownership: We take responsibility for outcomes and follow through on commitments.
Customer understanding: We take time to understand hospital workflows and the people using our technology.
Ambition: We are building technology that can meaningfully improve healthcare delivery at scale.
You'll work directly alongside Akara's founders and get exposure to almost every part of building the company: hiring, fundraising, customers, technology, operations, marketing and international expansion.
We're not looking for someone who only wants to advise or make recommendations. We're looking for someone who closes loops.
If you eventually want to found another company, run a business or become a senior operator at a high-growth startup, this role will give you a front-row seat to building one.
Benefits:
- Company events
- Company pension
