Ampaire, a leading tech startup in California's electric aviation sector, is seeking a Senior/Principal Engineer for Systems & Certification. This role will own the systems engineering, requirements management, and interaction with the FAA Part 33/23 certification programs. The position focuses on managing the document submissions and discussions with the FAA for the requirements basis, means of compliance, and verification/validation. Key qualifications include experience with Part 23 certification projects. The role reports to the CTO and is substantially full time in Long Beach, CA.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead technical responses to the FAA for our Part 23 and Part 33 certification projects
- Create documentation for requirements, means of compliance, and verification/validation reports for submission to the FAA
- Review FAA feedback and provide responses
- Support negotiation of requirements, means of compliance, and interpretation of verification/validation reports
- Manage certification requirements and flow down
- Lead interaction with the engineering development team to negotiate and flow down certification requirements
- Support engineering design and/or V&V efforts as appropriate
- Support the CTO on resolution of novel technology negotiations with the FAA
- Support the Director of Certification in managing the FAA certification process
- Position based at Long Beach HQ facility
- Reports to the CTO
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
- 8+ years of increasing responsibilities in aerospace, or equivalent, FAA Part 23 certification projects
- Expert knowledge of G-1 certification basis and G-2 means/methods of compliance
- Expert knowledge of Part 23-64 and special condition process
- Expert knowledge developing compliance matrices for Subparts B thru G
- Expert knowledge of aircraft requirements management & tools
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
- 15+ years of relevant experience
- Executed FAA Part 23 major modification supplemental type certification (STC) projects or Part 33 projects through certification
- Expert knowledge of ARP4761, ARP4754, and Parts 25, 43, 91, and 135
- Familiarity with electrified propulsion certification-intent projects
Salary
$160,000 - $260,000 per year
