Job description: Data Engineer

BeChained built a solution for industrial manufacturers to optimise and reduce energy costs and carbon offset spending.

Our RL solution, integrated with the existing facilities, continuously identifies the optimal settings on machines and executes the improvement automatically.

We also unlock demand-response and carbon market opportunities.

Our Data Operations team handles actionable data products for businesses.

Data scientists and engineers work together to create highly scalable solutions.

We bring state-of-the-art algorithms into production: we manage MLOps in an automated Cloud environment. Multi agent Deep Reinforcement Learning is our favourite. You will handle coding with Python, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Pandas, Scikit, Numpy, etc.

Minimum background:

• MSc or higher degree (preferably a Ph.D.) in Computer Science or Engineering experience
• Great programming skills in Python, in a Linux/Mac based environment.
• You are a well-versed data engineer. Have hands-on experience with MQTT or equivalent messaging systems, containers (Docker or equivalent), project serving and code versioning (Github or equivalent), databases (time series), cloud storages and services (AWS, Google Cloud or equivalent ), Python as a programming language.
• Multiple work streams excite you: use ambiguity as a lever for opportunity for high-level thinking. We work in a collaborative way through version control (Git) and CI/CD systems (GitHub, GitLab etc.). We collaborate to build technological roadmap with other data, industrial, sales engineers and developers.
• Have experience creating data product strategies. Have extensive Python experience and with (no)SQL in open source software development. We look for a talent with the caveats of jupyter notebooks.
• Good English oral and written communication skills (Spanish or other EU languages are a plus)
• Autonomy in decision making, being the milestone to build.
• 2 years experience in common Cloud-based environments (AWS, Google Cloud Platform or Azure)

The RL data scientist will play a vital role in expanding our footprint in any industry. The individual will work closely with our data lead to build RL/ML pipelines to provide an actionable solution to customer pain points, and support both technical and economic proposals.

Responsibility

• Design and co-create quarterly and yearly technological roadmaps for ML. Support technologies (frameworks, IDEs, feature stores, model registries, training platforms etc…) in cooperation with your colleagues.
• Identify, design and implement end-to-end focal ETL pipelines that scale and allow data & product to move fast to identify energy efficiency and energy flexibility in manufacturing installations.
• Let's build the best Data Platform, with modern architectures and paradigms (i.e. Data Mesh). Make scalable and flexible solutions, to become the reference for real-time energy efficiency and flexibility.
• Build reusable components. Ease development of new scalable data products across the whole organisation.
• Build the architecture for ML solutions. Improve any of existing products by finding better models & architectural patterns.
• Unlock value and democratise the access of a massive amount of data. We are hardware agnostic, working with i.e. Modbus, MBus, RTU, SCADA, and more, to gather data from customer’s devices.
• Design, build, test and deploy new libraries, frameworks or full systems for our core systems. Keep the highest standards of testing and code quality.
• Work with experienced engineers and product owners. Identify and build tools to automate many large-scale data management / analysis tasks.
• Join a team of talented and passionate data scientists and engineers, with a lot of opportunities to learn, grow and reach your expectations. Use technologies like Python, Tensorflow, Pandas, Scikit, Numpy, Kubernetes.
• Optimise results of implemented modules.
• Stay up to date with new technologies that could benefit the BeChained demand-response aggregator data platform.
• Work on algorithms to derive insights from our data set. And implement tools to ensure a frictionless delivery of data to our customers all around the globe.

Nice to have

• Experience in building libraries, frameworks or scalable platform services, machine learning lifecycle and in bringing machine learning into production, supported by other roles (data engineers). Strong background in statistics.
• Experience in designing architectures and developing software components for distributed systems (e.g. in the context of micro-service architectures).
• Knowledge and experience in implementing scalable software and services. They process data (e.g. real-time processing components, REST services), store data (e.g. relational databases, key-value stores) and return actionable instructions (i.e. SCADA, OPC, ...).
