Job description: Full stack & backend engineer

BeChained built a solution for industrial manufacturers to optimise and reduce energy costs and carbon offset spending.

Our RL solution, integrated with the existing facilities, continuously identifies the optimal settings on machines and executes the improvement automatically.

We also unlock demand-response and carbon market opportunities.

By applying to this position, you'll be part of an AI-powered solution making strides in energy efficiency, carbon accounting and demand-response in industry. You will have the chance to work in a dynamic start-up environment with international exposure to both EU and US markets.

Our Data Operations team handles actionable data products for businesses: data scientists and engineers work together to create highly scalable solutions.

We bring state-of-the-art algorithms into production: we manage ETL and data pipelines in an automated Cloud environment.

Minimum background:

• MSc or higher degree in Computer Science or Telecom Engineering experience
• Great programming skills in Python, in a Linux/Mac based environment.
• You are a well-versed data engineer.
• Strong experience in backend development (Python, Node.js, or similar)
• Solid knowledge of networking, dockers/kubernetes, VPNs, code versioning (Git, ...), REST APIs and Linux systems
• Experience working with IoT systems or edge computing is a big plus
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and in particular with processing real time data (e.g. Kafka, Spark, REST services)
• Bonus: experience with Grafana, time-series databases, or Modbus, Mbus, RTU, SCADA/PLC and MQTT/OPC-UA protocols
• Multiple work streams excite you: use ambiguity as a lever for opportunity for high-level thinking. We collaborate through version control (Git) and CI/CD systems. And build a technological roadmap with data.
• Good English oral & written communication skills (Spanish or other EU languages are a plus)
• WORK PERMIT for Spain or the EU.

Responsibility

• Connect Industrial IoT: Develop and maintain Linux-based on-premise gateways that interface with industrial machines and securely connect to our cloud platform.
• Manage VPN & Security: Handle secure VPN setup with clients, ensuring robust, encrypted communication between the on-site gateway and BeChained’s cloud.
• Backend Development for Dashboards: Build and optimize backend systems that feed data to our real-time client dashboards for machine monitoring and energy insights.
• Ensure Data Continuity: Implement resilient data pipelines to guarantee uninterrupted data flow and visualization, even in unstable network environments.
• Let's build the best Data Platform. Make it scalable and flexible to become the reference for real-time energy efficiency and flexibility.
• Unlock access of a massive real time data (we are hardware agnostic) with industrial protocols i.e. Modbus, MBus, RTU, and production applications SCADA, OPC-UA, PLC and more.
• Identify and build tools to automate many large-scale data management / analysis tasks. Build reusable and scalable components.
• Stay up to date with new technologies to create value for BeChained's products.
