About the Role

We're looking for a high-agency, technically curious student to work directly with our CTO on AI-driven engineering at Cantaloupe AI. You'll work alongside agentic coding tools, ship real features into a production codebase serving paying customers, and learn what it takes to build and operate AI systems in the real world. This is a fully remote role with occasional in-person opportunities on the Northshore.

What you'll do

  • Pair with the CTO on shipping features and improvements into Cantaloupe AI's production codebase
  • Use agentic coding tools like Claude Code, OpenCode, or Hermes to accelerate development and tackle real engineering problems
  • Contribute to AI systems work including prompt engineering, evals, retrieval pipelines, and voice interviewer logic
  • Debug, test, and validate code in TypeScript and Postgres environments
  • Translate ambiguous problems into shippable solutions with minimal hand-holding
  • Document your work clearly so the team can build on it
  • Surface ideas, edge cases, and opportunities you spot from working in the codebase

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, OpenCode, Hermes, or similar
  • Thinks like an engineer at a gears level (no Leetcode required, just genuine curiosity about how systems actually work)
  • Very high agency, with concrete examples of removing serious obstacles to achieve a goal (work or personal)
  • Self-starter who works independently and doesn't need heavy day-to-day management
  • Currently enrolled student, technical or quantitative major preferred but not required

Nice to have

  • Experience working in a production codebase serving paying customers
  • TypeScript and Postgres experience
  • Hands-on experience building or operating AI systems (LLM applications, voice AI, evals, RAG, agents)
  • Familiarity with version control workflows in Git and GitHub
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) or serverless deployment
  • Interest in the QSR, hospitality, or HR tech space
  • Active in the Louisiana startup or builder community
