Role: Mechanical Design Engineer - I

Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India (On-site)

Employment type: Full-time

Industry: Space Technology

About Catalyx Space:

We’re building AWS for space—providing in-space experiments and tech demos across LEO, deep space, and lunar orbit. Our offerings include unmanned labs, testbeds for rideshare and dedicated missions, and re-entry capsules for payload return. We simplify access with end-to-end solutions, no minimum mass limits, zero integration fees, and fast deployment (≤6 months), serving biopharma, semiconductors, materials science, defense, and more.

Role:

As a Propulsion Engineer at Catalyx Space, you will be responsible for engine development and propulsion plumbing for our entry-system propulsion module. You will design, build, and test thrusters and fluid systems, working hands-on from concept to test bench.

You will collaborate closely with the senior propulsion engineer to help deliver a flight-ready propulsion system.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own propulsion hardware development, including design, prototyping, and hot-fire testing
  • Develop and implement plumbing layouts for feed systems and system integration
  • Design and develop DAQ and safety systems for propulsion testing
  • Support valve, tank, and line integration
  • Troubleshoot, iterate, and deliver tested propulsion hardware ready for system integration
  • Design and develop static-fire stands and related test infrastructure for propulsion validation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Around 3 years of experience in propulsion, fluid systems, or thermal systems
  • Hands-on experience with thruster or engine testing and plumbing layouts
  • Strong expertise in SolidWorks for CAD modelling and assemblies
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, DFM, and design for additive manufacturing
  • Ability to perform material selection and support hardware trade-offs
  • Familiarity with NASA CEA or equivalent propulsion analysis tools
  • Strong problem-solving ability in lab and test environments

Nice to have:

  • Direct experience contributing to flight-ready or flight-qualified propulsion hardware
  • Exposure to earth-storable, non-toxic bipropellant engines
  • Familiarity with propulsion instrumentation and DAQ systems
  • Experience with engine testing workflows and plumbing optimization
  • Exposure to algorithmic engineering design
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to support extended hours or weekend work during critical build or test phases

Compensation & benefits:

  • Competitive salary (details will be shared with shortlisted candidates),
  • health insurance
  • Provident fund.
