The Investigations & Intelligence Solutions team at Chainalysis Government Solutions (CGS) is composed of world-class cryptocurrency investigators and data scientists who build trust in blockchains by mapping cryptocurrency activity to real-world entities–ranging from underground criminal networks to coordinated nation state activity.

The ideal Data Science Manager candidate will have deep experience leading and managing a team of data scientists to deliver data-driven insights and solutions to our customers. Our industry-leading cryptocurrency data powers our investigations, and our data science investigations team will be responsible for deriving data-driven insights for our customers to help supercharge their missions. This candidate will help our customers understand the value of our data, and build large, complex technical programs and projects to solve substantive and business challenges to optimize our data analysis and deliver an exceptional product to our customers. This candidate should also be comfortable working effectively across teams and with diverse U.S. public sector customers; possess an understanding of and passion for blockchain technology; and communicate effectively across diverse audiences at both the executive and practitioner level. As a CGS Data Science Manager, you'll measure your success by your impact on our customers’ mission and the execution and expansion of our data offerings at our key customers.

In this role, you'll:

  • Product Leadership: You will use Chainalysis data to help our customers solve some of their most difficult investigative challenges. You will also identify upcoming challenges, and shape product development to bring additional value to our customers. You will drive investigative analytics projects end-to-end in partnership with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to produce exceptional results for our customers. You will help develop strategy and support leadership in prioritizing how to continue to build our data offering that best aligns with customer needs.

  • Analytics: You will guide a data science team using data and insights. You will work with large and complex data sets to solve a wide array of challenging problems using different analytical and statistical approaches. You will focus on developing investigative hypotheses and employ a diverse toolkit of rigorous analytical approaches, different methodologies, frameworks, and technical approaches to test them.

  • Communication and influence: You won’t simply present data, but tell data-driven stories. You will influence customers and company leaders alike using clear insights and recommendations. You will build credibility through structure and clarity, and be a trusted strategic partner to investigators, domain partners, account team, and leadership.

  • People leadership: You will inspire, lead, and grow a world-class team of data scientists, ensuring high-quality deliverables, timely execution, and effective communication.

  • Obtain the Chainalysis Reactor Certification and the Chainalysis Investigations Specialist Course certification and expertly navigate open-source blockchain analytic tools.

We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field, such as mathematics, statistics, data science, engineering, computer science, or economics.

  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in analytics, preferably in finance, technology, or consulting.

  • Experience in leading and managing analytics teams, projects, and stakeholders, with strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.

  • Expert in core programming languages and data science packages (Python, Keras, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Pandas, Scikit-learn, Jupyter, etc.). Expertise in SQL and Apache Spark.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based computing platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks.

  • Experience working in AWS, GCP, or Microsoft Azure, GCP cloud environments.

  • Experience in applying advanced analytics techniques, such as machine learning, optimization, simulation, and forecasting, to solve real-world problems.

  • Familiarity implementing AI/ML Ops, Model Release Management, Model Training preferred.

  • Experience using data mining and statistical tools.

  • Proficiency in pattern recognition and predictive modeling.

  • Interest in and/or passion for blockchain/cryptocurrency technology.

  • Ability to think strategically and with a creative mindset to solve complex problems.

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

  • Live within commuting distance to the Chainalysis Washington, DC office.
