CLASSIFICATION: 12-month, Part-time, 18 hours/week maximum, 0.45 FTE
REPORTS TO: Head Baseball Coach and Director of Athletics
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
LOCATION: Central Hall | Athletic Fields
SUMMARY: The individual in this position will assist with recruiting for the baseball program and work as an assistant coach overseeing pitching or hitting, depending on the expertise of the respective individual. Additionally, the candidate will work to serve the players of the Cornerstone University Baseball program while acting in accordance with the mission of the university.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Carry out certain aspects of the baseball program necessary to accomplish the objectives of the sport within the university, athletic department, WHAC, and NAIA contexts
• Assist by serving as a contact for recruits
• Maintain recruiting database and stay up to date with text/email/phone calls throughout the year
• Scout tournaments and high school games as needed
• Assist with coordination of travel arrangements for the team
• Booking of hotels/rental houses
• Communicating with restaurants for lunch/dinner on game days
• Support head coach by preparing and conducting practices for a specific position group as assigned
• Write practice plans
• Stay up-to-date on current coaching/teaching methods
• Assist with off-season training
• Help write lifting program
• Supervise lifting program
• Oversee speed development
• Assist with oversight of DeWitt Field and the baseball portions of the facility including the locker room, indoor cage, weight room, and office
• Seek to build relationships of influence with team members that positively impact their spiritual and personal growth as followers of Christ
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Acceptance into a Cornerstone University Master’s Degree program
• Ability to work well under deadlines and high pressure situations
• Demonstrated professional organizational and communication skills
• Desire to model the values of Cornerstone University
• Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and active Christian commitment
• A theology that supports the values and mission of Cornerstone University, as evidenced by an ability to affirm and sign the university’s doctrinal statement, “The Cornerstone Confession”
