Development Academy Coach Job Description
We are looking to hire coaches for both our Laguna Hills and Irvine location.
Overview
The Development Academy Head Coach must provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for a team of youth athletes, while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play. In this role, the Head Coach is responsible for skill workouts, conducting practices, motivating players, and instructing athletes in game strategies and techniques.
Magic Elite coaches are a representation of the program and are responsible for modeling Magic Elites values and brand. They are expected to be knowledgeable in the program’s strategies and coaching methods. They will assist the head coach with daily practices and weekend tournaments.
About Magic Elite Basketball Academy
We prepare youth athletes for competitive high school basketball. Working with both boys and girls, ou rprogram relies on two key elements: professional coaching, and an academy-style development program. Over the last seven years, our program and style of play have proven more effective than the traditional league format at developing competitive athletes, maintaining enthusiasm for basketball, and balancing teams and gameplay experiences so that all players are making progress toward their goals year-round.
Responsibilities
Skill SESSIONS
Responsibilities include:
● Maintaining a strong knowledge of the daily workout
● Managing athlete throughout session
● Conducting workout according to the Magic Elite curriculum
● Providing the players with constructive criticism.
● Encouraging and motivating the players.
● Helping to build the Magic Elite culture.
Team Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
● Developing and implementing team strategies
● Promoting teamwork
● Communicating with parents
GAME DAY ROLE
Responsibilities include:
● Arrive 30 minutes prior to your game time
● Manage team during game (substitutions)
● Provide team and players with guidance and constructive feedback
Qualifications & Experience
● High school diploma or GED.
● Minimum High school varsity playing experience
●Experience as a youth sports coach.
● Passion for youth development.
● In-depth knowledge of basketball strategies and skill development.
● Good communication and interpersonal skills
.● Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
● Patient and understanding.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
● Must ALREADY live within a reasonable commute distance to Irvine & Laguna Hills,California. Out-of-state applicants will NOT be considered.
● Must be available week nights4:00-9:00 pm
● Must be available specific weekends (Saturday) 9:00AM – 5:00PM
● Must attend all scheduled Magic Elite functions and coaches’ meetings:
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 25 per week
Schedule:
- Night shift
- Rotating weekends
Experience:
- Sports Coaching: 1 year (Preferred)
Work Location: In person
