About the position
The Head Baseball Coach at John Jay College of Criminal Justice will play a pivotal role in the development and management of a competitive Division III baseball program. This position is under the supervision of the Athletics Director and Deputy Athletics Director, and it encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the success of the baseball team and its student-athletes. The Head Coach will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the baseball program, including operations, management, coaching, and recruitment of high-quality student-athletes. The role requires a strong commitment to the academic success and personal development of student-athletes, fostering an environment that promotes both athletic and academic excellence. The Head Coach will oversee practice sessions, game-day operations, and team travel arrangements, ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with NCAA Division III policies and procedures. This includes maintaining discipline among student-athletes during practices and competitions, as well as supervising the assistant coaching staff. The Head Coach will also engage in fundraising activities and alumni events to support the program financially and build a strong community around the baseball team. Additionally, the position requires participation in professional development opportunities to enhance coaching skills and contribute to the overall success of the program. The role demands flexibility, as it will require night and weekend work, along with overnight travel for games and tournaments. The Head Coach will be expected to represent the college at various meetings and events, ensuring that the baseball program aligns with the institution’s values and goals. Overall, this position is integral to the student-athlete experience at John Jay College, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Support the academic success of all student-athletes and demonstrate a strong commitment to their personal and professional development.
- Assist in the planning, management, evaluation, operation, and coordination of all aspects of the Baseball program.
- Supervise and organize practice sessions, game-day coaching operations, scheduling, and team travel.
- Maintain proper and appropriate discipline among students during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off campus.
- Supervise the assistant coaching staff.
- Actively recruit prospective students of the highest quality in order to contribute to the program’s success.
- Engage in team fundraising activities and alumni engagement events.
- Take advantage of professional development opportunities for personal and professional growth, as well as further success of the Baseball program.
- Attend campus, conference, regional, and national meetings as necessary.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, CUNY, CUNY Athletic Conference, John Jay College, and NCAA Division III policies and procedures.
- Coordinate travel arrangements for tournament travel, assigned budgets, program planning and forecasting, including team building and community outreach programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and two years’ full-time related experience required.
- Must be certified and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR/AED.
- Experience in hiring, supervising, and training support staff.
- Excellent customer and staff relations skills required.
- Strong organizational skills required.
Nice-to-haves
- Master’s Degree Preferred.
- Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the State of New York.
