Description
As a key member of the YMCA of South Florida team, this Sports Instructor plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality Youth Sports programs for children aged 3-17. This individual will act as a liaison between the Program Director and staff, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
- Ensure punctual arrival at the workplace, arriving at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
- Design and implement engaging Youth Sports activities tailored to the specific needs and interests of participants.
- Collaborate with the Program Director to foster strong relationships with local organizations and promote Youth Sports programs within the community.
- Plan, supervise, and implement programs in line with the YMCA’s core values, policies, and Risk Management and Safety protocols.
- Show empathy and understanding towards children with special needs, adapting activities to meet their unique requirements.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment by arranging the classroom space effectively.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child’s progress, achievements, and any concerns.
- Attend YMCA functions, such as staff meetings and program events, to stay informed and engaged.
- Participate in ongoing professional development through training and attend coaches’ meetings as required by the Program Director.
- Train and assist volunteers in coaching Youth Sports, promoting teamwork and sharing expertise.
- Comply with YMCA Risk Management procedures by reporting incidents or accidents to the Program Director and/or Human Resources within 24 hours.
- Perform additional duties as needed based on Family Center or Program Site requirements or needs.
Job Requirements:
- Holds a High School diploma or equivalent, along with a letter from a High School official indicating graduation intent date.
- A minimum of two years of experience participating in or teaching Youth Sports to children, or comparable experience is preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Skills and Qualities:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective interaction with individuals at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented.
- Exceptional communication skills, allowing clear expression of ideas to youth and adults alike.
