About the position

Sacred Heart Schools is seeking organized and responsible Coaches for our Basketball Program, which caters to students in grades 4-8. Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road, which includes Hardey Preparatory for Boys and the Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls, are independent, Catholic, single-gender elementary schools. These institutions are committed to academic excellence within a Christian, faith-based community. Our educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart, shared with a network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries, including 25 schools in the United States and Canada. The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical. The basketball coaching position is a seasonal, part-time role that runs from the end of October through the end of February, with time off for school holiday breaks. Coaches are expected to lead and attend all practices and events, which are scheduled twice a week, along with games. Games for the 4-6th grades are held on Saturdays, while games for the 7-8th grades can occur any day of the week. The practice slots are dependent on the grade level and typically occur between 3:45 PM and 7:45 PM. Coaches will receive a stipend for their contributions, whether they are head or assistant coaches. Successful candidates will be highly organized, responsible individuals with strong communication skills, a passion for coaching youth sports, and the ability to lead and assist with practice drills for both small and large groups.

Responsibilities

• Attend and lead all basketball practices and events.
• Conduct practice sessions twice a week.
• Organize and manage game schedules for 4-8th grades.
• Lead practice drills for both small and large groups.
• Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding schedules and expectations.

Requirements

• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to organize and manage practice sessions.
• Passion for coaching youth sports.
• Experience in sports coaching (preferred but not mandatory).
