About the position

The Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at W.C. Overfelt High School is responsible for leading the varsity basketball program, instilling commitment, discipline, and teamwork among student-athletes. The coach will oversee all levels of the basketball program, ensuring adherence to the CIF/CCS Coaches Code of Conduct and the BVAL Coaches Code of Conduct. This role requires effective communication with parents, students, staff, and the community, as well as the ability to balance academic and athletic commitments for students.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of the rules and fundamental skills and techniques for basketball.
• Organizes practices and designs appropriate conditioning programs for the sport.
• Follows district guidelines and policies in management and organization.
• Communicates effectively with parent groups, administrators, staff, and students.
• Maintains positive communication with the community.
• Instills commitment, discipline, and teamwork in student-athletes of varying abilities.
• Helps students balance academic workloads with athletic commitments.
• Manages fiscal responsibilities related to fundraising and purchasing for the sport.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and uniforms to ensure safety and minimize loss.
• Adheres to the CIF/CCS BVAL Coaches Code of Conduct and district policies.

Requirements

• Playing experience in basketball at the high school, collegiate, amateur, or professional level.
• High school coaching experience at the Junior Varsity level or youth leagues/middle school in basketball or equivalent experience.
• Current State of California coaching certifications.
• Current certification required by the East Side Union High School District, including annual mandated reporter training.
• Must pass District Fingerprint clearance.
• Professional references.
