The Harker School is seeking a Head Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Coach for its Upper School athletic program. The season begins in November and runs through February 2026.
Expected Hourly Rate: $20.00 – $25.00
Position SummaryOur coaches must be committed to the personal development of our student-athletes. This includes teaching them skills related to the sport. As a coach, you must also help students develop a competitive nature, teach them about ethical behavior and good sportsmanship, and assist in the development of leadership and life skills. As Head Coach, you are responsible for leading the program, developing practice plans, and mentoring both student-athletes and assistant coaches.
- Assumes responsibility for safely and effectively managing groups of students
- Plans and leads all practices and games for the JV boys soccer team
- Provides mentorship and guidance to assistant coaches (if applicable)
- Communicates effectively with the Athletic Director, staff, students, and parents
- Stays informed regarding weekly athletic department updates, schedules, and expectations
- Follows all guidelines as outlined in the Upper School Coaches Handbook
- Maintains accurate attendance and equipment records
- Completes miscellaneous tasks and duties as requested
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Attends coaches meetings and mandatory seasonal parent meetings
- Ensures students participate in a fair, inclusive, and sportsmanlike manner
- Ensures safety and appropriate behavior of students during practices, games, and travel
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of league, section, and state bylaws pertaining to high school soccer
- Provides input and support for the development of middle and/or lower school soccer programs when applicable
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
- Strong knowledge of soccer fundamentals, strategies, and training methods
- Ability to lead and motivate high school athletes (ages 13-19)
- Effective communication and leadership skills
- Commitment to fostering a positive, respectful, and growth-focused team environment
Working Conditions
- Extended periods of standing, walking, running, or outdoor exposure
- Exposure to variable weather conditions, including cold and rain, throughout the winter season
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Experience working with high school-aged students preferred
- First Aid/CPR certification (required or willingness to obtain)
- 1-2 years of coaching experience (required; head coach experience preferred)
