Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) is seeking a Youth Basketball Coach to provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of teens while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play.

About KAVI – Kings Against Violence Initiative

KAVI is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) youth-serving organization with a mission to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and advancing social justice. KAVI promotes community wellness and healing by operating high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Central Brooklyn by incorporating trauma-informed care, public health principles, and social work practices. Our programs take place in hospital-based, school, and community settings. We are a fast-paced, rapidly growing nonprofit organization. We seek to build a team composed of individuals who are willing to work hard, be creative, build on opportunities, and think “out of the box.”

About Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI)
Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization that seeks to protect and improve the lives of young people in low-income and underserved communities by preventing and eliminating interpersonal violence through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and advancing social justice.

Using a multidisciplinary approach to violence prevention and youth development, we connect with youth at their schools, in community settings, and in hospitals –as part of a holistic effort to violence intervention that begins and ends with recognizing their humanity. Grounded in public health principles we center prevention, immediate intervention (in the hospital setting), and community building.

All KAVI team members are expected to carry themselves in a professional, role model manner.
Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) is seeking a Youth Basketball Coach to provide an enjoyable and safe sporting experience for an assigned group of teens while they learn individual and team game skills, sportsmanship, and fair play.
Responsibilities
  • Coach an assigned group of teenagers emphasizing skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship, and fun.
• Preside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and games. • Be responsible for team equipment.
  • Ensure equal playing time for all your players regardless of the score.
  • Work to establish and improve team unity and spirit.
  • Adhere to KAVI policies, objectives, and rules. Lead by example among stakeholders to support the responsibilities of the referee and league leadership.

Qualifications
  • Experienced basketball coach at any level.
  • Current CPR/ First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with teens and young adults.
  • Exude enthusiasm and positive spirit.
  • Exhibit patience, maturity, and dependability.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Recognized by others of sound character and strong moral values and personal ethics.
Compensation: The starting wage for the position is budgeted for an hourly rate of $50.

Salary
