Overview: At Cognitive Space, we are at the forefront of AI innovation, developing intelligent systems that address complex challenges. This summer, we offer an exciting internship opportunity for an aspiring AI innovator to join our team in Houston, Texas. You will work on developing Large Language Model (LLM)-based agents capable of sophisticated tool interaction and reasoning. This role involves pioneering technology for satellite mission planning and orchestration, as well as creating intelligent solutions to streamline internal business operations. This internship is a chance to contribute to impactful projects and gain valuable experience in AI.

What You'll Do: As an AI Agent Development Summer Intern, you will be immersed in a challenging and rewarding environment, contributing to the full lifecycle of AI solutions. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Application in Satellite Mission Planning & Orchestration:

  • Design and prototype solutions for optimizing complex satellite mission planning, scheduling, and orchestration tasks.
  • Develop AI-driven technologies to address challenges in space operations, such as real-time mission planning, constellation optimization, and orchestration.

Application in Business Operations Streamlining:

  • Leverage LLM agents to analyze, automate, and streamline intricate internal business processes.
  • Develop agent-based solutions for tasks such as blog post writing, knowledge base interaction, workflow automation, and data analysis.

Research, Integration, and Collaboration:

  • Focus on enabling agents to proficiently use external tools through techniques such as function calling and API integration.
  • Investigate and implement multi-agent frameworks.
  • Collaborate extensively with multidisciplinary teams comprising AI researchers, software engineers, and domain experts in aerospace and business operations.
  • Actively participate in the entire project lifecycle – from conceptualization, requirements gathering, and design, through to coding (primarily in Python), rigorous testing, iterative refinement, and documentation.
  • Clearly document your research, development process, and experimental results, and prepare compelling presentations to share your findings and project outcomes.

Who We're Looking For: We are seeking highly motivated, curious, and talented individuals who are passionate about pushing the frontiers of Artificial Intelligence. The ideal candidate will possess:

Educational Background:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Exceptional Bachelor’s degree students in their senior year with a strong academic record and demonstrable project experience in AI/LLMs may also be considered.

Core Technical Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in Python and extensive experience with common machine learning and deep learning libraries and frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, scikit-learn).
  • Practical experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, and core machine learning concepts.
  • Familiarity with frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex is a significant advantage.

Desirable Attributes & Interests:

  • A keen interest in, or foundational knowledge of, satellite systems, orbital mechanics, space mission planning concepts, or general aerospace technology.
  • Familiarity with advanced AI agent techniques such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, or knowledge graph integration.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) for developing and deploying AI models is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Rust is a nice-to-have.
  • Familiarity with AWS Bedrock is a nice-to-have.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, demonstrating a creative, meticulous, and resourceful approach to tackling complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • ​​​​​​​A proactive, self-motivated, and enthusiastic learner who is eager to embrace new technologies and methodologies.

Salary Range: $25 - $45 per hour up to 40 hrs. per week.
