About Cuvva!

We are making cars multiplayer 🚙

We’re creating truly flexible products that meet people’s real needs. Using lightning-fast technology to unlock better experiences and fairer prices for our customers, Cuvva is building the future of insurance every day.

Cuvva was the first to sell hourly insurance to borrow a car through an app in the UK back in 2016. And we haven’t stopped innovating since. We’ve sold over 13 million policies, and supported over 1 million drivers and we’re just getting started. We’re a world-class team of 100 people, passionate about solving our customers’ problems. Join us. 🚀

Our Product teams

At Cuvva, we operate with three distinct, yet highly collaborative and cross-functional product teams.. As our new Senior Product Designer, reporting to Product Leadership, we’ll be looking for you to join our New Ventures team to start off with.

  • New Ventures - Operating as Cuvva’s internal incubator, New Ventures explores high-potental opportunities that can become significant growth drivers for our business. New Ventures is designed to look further ahead, balancing discovery and delivery while taking calculated risks on ideas that could transform our business.
  • Core - Dedicated to growing our market-leading short-term car insurance product, driving over £6 million in monthly sales. As a cross-functional team, we focus on enhancing the user experience by deeply understanding customer needs, introducing new products and features to solve their problems, whilst continually optimising all aspects of the funnel.
  • Platform - Owners of the technical foundations that drive the business. The Platform team enables other teams within the business to move faster, reduce costs and succeed. Tackling some of the most complex challenges for the business, the Platform team maintains stability, whilst driving profit growth through automation.

Each product team autonomously owns their area of the Cuvva product. Teams are made up of a Product Designer, cross disciplinary Engineers, and a dedicated Product Manager & Engineering Manager.

At Cuvva, people come from a variety of backgrounds and have different but complementary skill sets for ultimate collaboration. Within Product, you’re not required to have a degree, many of us are self-taught.

Our Design tool kit:

  • UI/UX design: Figma.
  • Prototyping: Figma Make, bolt.new
  • Research: Perplexity, Claude/ChatGPT, UserTesting, Typeform.
  • Collaboration: Notion, Productboard, Shortcut, Miro, FigJam, Slack, Google Meet.
  • Handoff & Engineering collaboration: Figma Dev Mode and proactive conversations.

About the role:

As a Senior Product Designer, you’ll have the opportunity to own and shape the complete end-to-end design process - from initial problem discovery and early wireframes through to post-release review and iteration. You’ll collaborate closely
with Product Managers, fellow Designers and Engineers to craft exceptional user experiences. You’ll work on data-informed design solutions, leveraging user research, analytics, and A/B testing to improve and refine our products. With your customer-centric and product-focused mindset, you'll contribute to our design system, create high-fidelity UI designs, and prototype interactive experiences that enhance usability and engagement. Your work will directly impact the evolution of our Cuvva platform, ensuring our digital products are accessible, inclusive, and built for scale.

At Cuvva, we care deeply about building thoughtful, well-crafted experiences. As our new Senior Product Designer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our product, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve real-world problems through intuitive design, strong research practices, and an iterative mindset.

In this role, a passion for your craft is essential, but so is the ability to balance creativity with commercial impact. After learning how things work, we want you to bring a strategic mindset, making informed design challenges that push us to think differently.

A large part of this role is about true partnership, working closely with Product Managers and Engineers to drive meaningful results. That means you don’t just rely on your technical expertise as a Designer; you proactively foster a collaborative, open, and engaging environment, ensuring design is a true team effort.

On a day-to-day basis you’ll:

Own the full design process

  • Take complete ownership of the design process, from problem discovery to execution, ensuring alignment between user needs and business goals for your products.
  • Create early wireframes and concepts during discovery phases, rapidly exploring multiple solution directions.
  • Conduct post-release reviews analysing user behaviour, conversion metrics, and feedback to inform future iterations.
  • Plan and execute design/product improvements based on post-launch insights and changing user needs.

Lean into AI

  • Extensively use AI tools for rapid prototyping, user research synthesis, content creation and design exploration.
  • Leverage AI for research - using tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity to analyse user feedback, generate research questions, and synthesis insights.
  • Prototype with AI assistance - utilising your tool of choice (paid for by Cuvva), whether that be bolt.new, v0 or other tool to quickly validate concepts and create interactive demos.
  • Explore emerging AI design tools and experiment with new technologies to enhance workflows and push boundaries of what's possible.

Excel with a broad remit

  • Work smart, knowing when to turn round a simple solution quickly and when to go deep to truly understand the more complex problems.
  • Prototype and test UX/UI features using tools like Figma, incorporating microinteractions and animations where needed.
  • Design and document high-fidelity UI solutions, ensuring consistency across mobile and web platforms.
  • Run usability tests and experiments, leveraging A/B testing and behavioural insights to iterate and improve product performance.
  • Work closely with Engineers to ensure smooth handoff, maintain design integrity, and bring complex UI solutions to life.
  • Develop and maintain our design system, ensuring it evolves alongside our product.
  • Facilitate workshops, journey mapping, and ideation sessions to align stakeholders and generate new ideas.
  • Leverage data and research (both quantitative and qualitative) to inform design decisions and validate solutions.
  • Champion accessibility and inclusion, ensuring our products are designed for everyone.
  • Contribute to product performance tracking, using analytics to measure and refine UX outcomes.

Champion collaboration

  • Be a proactive member of the Design community, contributing to and benefiting from weekly design kick-offs, feedback sessions, and knowledge-sharing forums.
  • Engage in peer design critiques to refine your work, gain fresh perspectives, and uphold best practices in UX and UI design.
  • Champion design best practices and continuous learning, leveraging discussions, workshops, and community-driven initiatives to refine both your craft and the overall product experience.

You’ll do great here if you have:

  • Proven experience in end-to-end Product Design, ideally within a product-led company.
  • Strong experience with AI tools and enthusiasm for integrating AI into design workflows for research, prototyping and creative exploration.
  • A desire to collaborate and co-create with fellow Designers, Product Managers and Engineers - recognising that great design is as much about communication and teamwork as it is about craft. You actively seek out diverse perspectives, knowing that the best solutions come from cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience designing for mobile platforms (iOS & Android), with a great understanding of Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma (including Design Systems, prototyping, and developer handoff).
  • A solid grasp of UX research methodologies, with the ability to synthesise data into actionable insights.
  • A great mindset of continuous learning, keeping up with the latest trends in UX, UI, and interaction design.

It’s a bonus if you:

  • Have worked in a startup, scaleup or design agency/product studio environment, where high-impact and high-quality work is measured in days and weeks, rather than months and years.
  • Have some understanding of front-end development (e.g., understanding how your designs translate into code).
  • Are familiar with gamification and behavioural design principles to drive engagement.
  • Have experience with motion design or microinteractions to create delightful user experiences.
  • Have worked with design tokens and contributed to maintaining a scalable design system.
  • Have worked on consumer facing products (B2C).
