Senior API Writer

DataRobot

DataRobot

Marketing & Communications, Software Engineering
Boston, MA, USA
Posted on Nov 5, 2024

Job Description:

DataRobot is the leader in Value-Driven AI, a unique and collaborative approach to generative and predictive AI that combines an open platform, deep expertise and broad use-case experience to improve how organizations run, grow and optimize their business. The DataRobot AI Platform is the only complete AI lifecycle platform that interoperates with an organization’s existing investments in data, applications and business processes, and can be deployed on prem or on any cloud environment. Global organizations, including 40% of the Fortune 50, rely on DataRobot to drive greater impact and value from AI.

As DataRobot pivots towards the code-first user, stellar technical documentation for those users becomes even more important. Currently, our API documentation is written by developers and included in the code, and, as a result, tends to lack the polished completeness that a technical writer brings to the task. To fully engage code-first users, DataRobot is extending our API documentation to help ensure coding users' success by improving the site, the usability, and the content breadth and quality. We are looking for a writer who can help us deliver on this newly launched priority initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain persona-centric documentation for API users and “data scientists who code”--examples and how-to content for API functions and methods.

  • Work with developers and technical product managers to update, verify, and improve documentation of language packages for the developer community.

  • Work with developers and data scientists to test, play with, and document the code snippets they create.

  • Work closely with engineering, product, and support teams to ensure the quality, discoverability, and accuracy of the content you create and develop.

  • Peer edit other documentation content to learn platform-wide functionality and apply learnings to API content.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The candidate must have proven experience producing technical content for public consumption, addressed to persona-centric audiences, including:

  • Strong technical understanding of REST APIs, HTTP, SDKs, Python in particular

  • Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger 3+ specification

  • Ability to understand code snippets, learn the why and how, and embed them in documentation

  • Excellent, clear, clean, accessible writing; obsessive eye for consistency and technical accuracy

  • Laser focus on--and commitment to--deadlines; familiarity with continuous deployment practices

  • Ability to thrive, without much oversight, in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

  • Ability to manage multiple project-based documentation assignments simultaneously

  • Experience with documentation and source control systems and workflow tools--GitHub, JIRA/Confluence, Markdown

  • Ability to write in a range of styles and tones, from highly technical to informal prose

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years professional work experience in API documentation
