Esper, a company launching hyperspectral satellites, is building Wildcat, an AI mineral intelligence platform. Wildcat turns hyperspectral satellite imagery and public geoscience data into mineral prospectivity assessments for explorers.
The data behind that platform has to be right. That is your job. You will read the geology, structure it, and check it before it reaches a model or a client.
You will work directly with our geology and engineering teams. Expect real inputs into a live product, not filing work.
What you will doResearch and synthesis- Pull together information from papers, geological surveys, maps, datasets, reports, and other sources into a single clear picture.
- Build and maintain consistent schemas and taxonomies for minerals, geological features, locations, deposit types, and related concepts.
- Flag gaps, ambiguities, and contradictions in the source material, and say where more research is needed.
- Assess datasets for relevance, coverage, resolution, licensing, provenance, and quality.
- Clean and validate data, and document what you changed and why.
- Enrolled in a geoscience or earth science degree at an Australian institution.
- Working knowledge of mineral systems, deposit types, and geological terminology.
- Comfortable reading technical literature and survey reports.
- Careful with detail. You notice when two sources disagree.
- Clear written English. You can explain your reasoning to a non-geologist.
- Right to work in Australia.
- Based in Melbourne.
- GIS experience (QGIS or ArcGIS).
- Python, SQL, or scripting for data handling.
- Exposure to remote sensing, hyperspectral data, or geochemistry.
- Familiarity with JORC 2012 reporting.
- Paid internship.
- Direct work on a product used by exploration companies.
- Mentoring from working geologists and engineers.
- A reference and portfolio of real outputs.
