Role Description:
We are seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of maternal-fetal health monitoring technologies through the design of simulation systems. You will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on projects, conduct research, design mechanical systems, and integrate electrical systems. This role offers a unique chance to blend theoretical knowledge with practical applications while working in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Academic Research: Conduct literature reviews to identify technical requirements for automated mechatronic testing setups.
- Mechanical Design: Assist in the design and assembly of mechanical components using OnShape for prototypes and products.
- Electrical Component Integration: Research, select, and integrate off-the-shelf electrical components (e.g., sensors, actuators, controllers) for the automated setups.
- Hands-On Work: Design, assemble, test, and validate the testing setups.
- Firmware Development: Create basic firmware for microcontrollers and embedded systems to ensure effective communication between components.
- GUI Design: Assist in developing user-friendly graphical user interfaces (GUI) for the testing system, focusing on functionality and scalability.
- Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct testing and debugging to meet performance and reliability standards, resolving mechanical, electrical, and software issues.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, CAD files, research findings, and project logs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related co-op program.
- Hands-on, rapid prototyping experience for multidisciplinary technical projects.
- Strong research skills with the ability to analyze academic papers and industry standards.
- Basic proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design (e.g., OnShape, Solidworks).
- Familiarity with electrical components and circuit design (e.g., sensors, actuators, microcontrollers).
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach, demonstrating ownership of projects.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ (Arduino), Python, MATLAB, Java
- Applied understanding of mechanical and electrical integration practices: actuators, sensors, and signals
- Understanding of PCB bring-up, debugging, soldering, and circuit evaluation
- Design experience: Process, iteration, stakeholder consideration and evaluation
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experienced with creating concise technical documents and reports.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Able to work independently, set personal goals, and drive self-directed projects.

Job Details:
- Term: January 27, 2025 - March 31, 2025
- Salary: $36 per hour
- Hours: 30 hours per week (part-time is also possible for strong candidates)
- Location: In-person at our workspaces in Vancouver.
