About the Role
We’re seeking a Backend JavaScript Engineer (contractor) to help evolve and scale our backend systems. This role is for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, enjoys working autonomously, and wants their work to have immediate impact. You’ll be focused on implementing and improving backend infrastructure, integrating intelligent workflows using AWS Step Functions, and building automation powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) and serverless technology.
You’ll collaborate with our Engineering Manager, Software Architect, and Principal Engineer to design and scale intelligent backend systems that power AI-driven tools and automated workflows across our platform.

Job Requirements
5+ years of professional backend engineering experience (Node.js/JavaScript).
Strong experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
Experience building on AWS using services like Lambda, S3, Step Functions, and ECS.
Familiarity with LLM-based integrations and prompt engineering is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
What You’ll Do
Own the architecture and development of scalable backend services using Node.js and AWS.
Integrate workflows using AWS Step Functions, Lambda, S3, EventBridge, and other cloud-native services.
Implement automation and decision-making logic using LLMs (e.g., OpenAI API, Bedrock).
Design and maintain relational data models (PostgreSQL), API contracts, and background processing jobs.
Collaborate with product and engineering to translate requirements into secure, maintainable, and testable services.
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through code reviews, design discussions, and technical mentoring.
