Global EIR is an innovative 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that expands economic opportunities through supporting international founders. Operating in partnership with colleges and universities around the United States, Global EIR enables founders to access cap-exempt H-1Bs that let them focus on building their businesses rather than grappling with the American immigration system. By eliminating visa risk, the startups are more easily able to raise funding, make sales, and grow their team to meet opportunities. The economic development unlocked by supporting these founders and their companies supports cities and states around the country to benefit more fully from the innovation economy while attracting and retaining talented populations to their regions. In following Brad Feld's Give Before You Get philosophy, international entrepreneurs and their teams will be expected to contribute to the startup and academic communities that are taking a bet on them by serving as mentors and offering internships and job opportunities. Coming from diverse backgrounds, Global EIR is proud to provide mentors to programs that enable women, people of color, and first-generation college students to acquire the skills they need to get their first internships and jobs in the tech industry. To date, Global EIR programs have successfully received visas for over 30 founders at a 100% success rate. Global EIR has partnerships with 13 universities in six states, and companies affiliated with Global EIR have raised over $180M in private capital and have created over 400 jobs, including $8.5M in new funding and 58 new jobs. Global EIR went through the Techstars Boulder 2017 program as their first nonprofit.
