About the Role

GlossGenius has been empowering independent entrepreneurs in the beauty and wellness space to pursue their dreams and successfully grow their businesses. As we continue to scale, we're strengthening our engineering organization. As a Director of Engineering at GlossGenius, you will lead multiple teams critical to delivering value to our 100,000+ business owners.

You'll oversee the engineering leaders that represent our core product pillar. Your teams will work across backend, frontend, and mobile stacks to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions. Whether driving features that directly impact our customers' success or enabling engineering velocity and reliability across the organization, your leadership will be key to helping GlossGenius move faster, build better, and scale with confidence.

As a Director, you'll set execution standards across your pillar, develop 1+ year technical strategy aligned with business goals, build and coach a team of managers, and serve as a key voice in engineering leadership. You'll be responsible for technical strategy, organizational development, and ensuring alignment between engineering execution and business objectives.

We default to being in-office 3-4 days per week with required attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

  • Own the delivery of major initiatives across multiple teams, ensuring cross-functional coordination, risk management, and successful business outcomes
  • Establish engineering standards, processes, and best practices that scale across the organization while maintaining quality, velocity, and developer experience
  • Define and track key engineering metrics and OKRs, using data to drive continuous improvement in team performance and delivery

Vision & Strategy

  • Partner with senior leadership, product, and design to define multi-year technical and product strategy, driving organizational alignment on priorities and execution roadmaps
  • Drive technical architecture decisions and trade-offs that balance immediate business needs with long-term scalability and maintainability

Leadership & Team Building

  • Build organizational capacity by partnering with recruiting to attract, hire, and retain top engineering talent, while developing succession plans and career frameworks
  • Mentor and coach engineering managers, helping them develop their leadership skills and technical judgment
  • Navigate organizational dynamics and build coalitions, providing clear communication to executive stakeholders on progress, risks, and technical strategy

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering leadership roles (managing managers)
  • Proven track record of scaling engineering teams and building high-performing organizations of 50+
  • Deep experience collaborating with executive leadership, product, and design to develop strategy, manage stakeholder expectations, and deliver complex, multi-team initiatives
  • Strong business acumen and customer-centric mindset, with the ability to translate business objectives into technical strategy
  • Solid technical depth across modern engineering practices, architectures, and systems, with the ability to evaluate technical decisions and guide senior technical leaders
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional engineering talent, including building diverse and inclusive teams
  • Exceptional communication and influence skills, with experience presenting to executives and rallying large groups around shared vision
  • Experience managing distributed or hybrid teams preferred
