What will you do?
At Ground, we’re seeking an impossible talent. As one the first technical members outside of the founders, you will also be the very first backend engineering hire on the team. You will be responsible for maintaining and scaling our infrastructure that is currently processing over 100 million requests per month (soon to be over 1 billion requests at our current growth rate).
We’re looking for a talented and experienced Backend Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will design, build, maintain and scale the backbone of our technical infrastructure, working on complex distributed systems that power our AI-driven products. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, tackling challenges head-on and iterating quickly, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to quality and reliability. You’ll work on complex data processing pipelines, machine learning infrastructure, and high-performance APIs, enabling our team to deliver exceptional AI-driven products.
Key Responsibilities
Strengthen and scale the current infrastructure to ensure reliability and performance under increasing demands.
Build and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale data processing workflows.
Develop APIs and interfaces to power seamless integration and data flow between services.
Design and scale databases, ensuring efficient data models for analytical and transactional processing.
Architect and implement distributed systems and data orchestration pipelines.
Ensure system reliability through unit and integration testing, automated deployments, infrastructure monitoring, and more.
Drive best practices in software design
What you should have
3+ years of professional experience in backend engineering or similar roles.
Proven expertise in building and scaling large-scale distributed systems.
Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, Batch, RDS, SageMaker) and cloud-native architectures.
Strong knowledge of database design, data modeling, and data processing pipelines.
Experience with API design, data orchestration tools, and infrastructure monitoring.
Proficiency in Python. Knowledge of other common backend languages is a plus (e.g. Node.js, Java, Go, Rust, Scala, etc).
Solid understanding of unit and integration testing.
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker.
Ability to balance speed and agility with ensuring long-term stability and scalability.
Bonus: Experience in AI/ML, with a passion for working at the intersection of data and ML.
Bonus: Previous experience as a startup founder or early stage CTO.
