We’re seeking an exceptional Backend Engineer to join and help build the core implementation of our cloud‑backend systems powering real-time industrial data insights that advances sustainability at scale. Since we are a small team, we’re constantly picking up new challenges and really value engineers who can spot a problem and just get it done. We do not expect you to know everything we use, but you should have a solid backend foundation, a knack for scalable systems, and a hunger to learn whatever the next challenge throws your way. Title and scope will depend on experience.
What You Will Do
- Build & Ship APIs: Develop and maintain backend APIs and services that power our core product, working closely with senior engineers to deliver production-ready features.
- Work with Data Pipelines: Support development and maintenance of data pipelines using tools like Databricks, helping process and analyze large-scale datasets.
- Infrastructure as Code: Work with Terraform to help manage and deploy cloud infrastructure in a scalable and repeatable way.
- Product Performance: Improve database and infrastructure performance by optimizing relational schemas and building robust, high-efficiency data pipelines.
- Monitoring Infrastructure: Improve observability, monitoring, and alerting of our cloud infrastructure to identify bottlenecks and minimize downtime.
- Security Design: Make security a first-class priority by integrating secure data practices throughout everything we build.
- Grow Fast: Continuously learn new tools, technologies, and domain knowledge in a fast-paced environment.
About You
- Strong Python and/or PHP skills with solid backend development experience
- Strong proficiency with SQL databases, with demonstrated ability for complex queries, query optimization, and performance tuning
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases
- Experience with AWS and/or Azure
- Understanding of data pipelines (ETL; Spark/Databricks is a plus)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
- Knowledge of security best practices
- Strong ownership mindset with excellent problem-solving skills

Our Interview Process
1. Phone screen with Laminar Head of Ops or Recruiter (15-20 minutes)
2. Intro call with Hiring Manager (30 minutes)
3. On-site interview, including short tour of GTL, overview of tech, and interview/presentation with the Hiring Manager and a few team members. Depending on the role, a skills exercise that should take no longer than an hour to prep, would be sent ahead of time. We record your skills exercise to share with any team members who could not join the interview and/or with Founder's ahead of their Founder's Interview. If you are not local, we can conduct this virtually.
4. Finalists for Full-Time positions will have a Founder’s Interview in-person
Final steps:
Two professional references are requested, ideally one from your current organization and one who served as your Manager
If an Offer Letter is extended, a Background check is conducted
