At Halion you will play an integral role in R&D and product development. This primarily involves development of key specialty materials and working with other members of the team to help integrate your projects into a final product.

This is a full-time, in-person position at our Guelph headquarters.
Position Summary:
We are looking for a highly collaborative synthetic chemist who is an absolute whiz in the lab and excited to apply their knowledge towards developing novel display materials. Someone who loves learning about physics, chemistry, and electronics through a hands-on approach. This individual should:

Have experience in academic and/or industry environments performing synthetic chemistry on a full time basis

Be experienced with a wide range of synthetic and analytical techniques common in organic chemistry such as air/moisture sensitive chemistry, separation/purification of products, NMR and UV-Vis (DLS and Zeta potential an asset)

Work with hazardous chemicals safely and responsibly as required

Be able to balance working on multiple simultaneous projects and contribute to tasks across different disciplines
-
Demonstrate the ability to work through problems and figure things out with minimal supervision
-
Experience with quantum chemistry calculations is a plus
Responsibilities:
-
Design and carry out experiments; collect, analyze, and interpret data; drive technical problem solving in synthetic chemistry projects
-
Perform bench level laboratory work including synthesis of various display materials, and aid in the integration of materials into other aspects of the technology
-
Provide complex design reviews and feedback for improvement in scale-up to help transfer the technology from lab-scale development to commercial-scale production

Operate analytical instruments and maintain high quality documentation
-
Assist with ongoing experiments and integration of results from collaborations

Technical writing to potentially include: research papers, abstracts, reports and SOPs
Skills and Qualifications:

Associate Research Scientist: PhD or MSc in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related field
-
Research Scientist: PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related field plus 2-4 years of related experience

Senior Research Scientist: PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related field plus >5 years of related experience

Able to legally work in Canada

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required

Job type: Full-time
Pay: From $60,000 per year to $85,000 in accordance with job title
