Hydrosat is a space and data analytics company building a new Earth observation constellation and software to unlock the power of thermal infrared imagery. We are hiring a Field Operations Engineer based in Kazakhstan to support Hydrosat’s 2026 in-country field campaigns. This is a hands-on, operational role involving equipment deployment, data collection, and on-site issue resolution to ensure effective field operations. The position requires extensive travel and regular work in outdoor agricultural environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot field sensors (ground sensors, weather stations, thermal measurements etc) and equipment in real field conditions.

  • Act as Hydrosat’s local point of contact with farmers, partners, and institutions involved in field activities.

  • Own field logistics: travel, transport, shipping, customs, permits, and equipment handling.

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and quality-controlled collection and transfer of field data and insights to the Hydrosat Science team.

  • Document field activities, site conditions, issues, and outcomes clearly and consistently.

  • Coordinate field schedules, site access, and campaign timelines with local partners and Hydrosat teams.

  • Ensure compliance with local regulations and safety requirements.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or Environmental Sciences, Physics, Remote Sensing, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of experience in field engineering, agricultural trials, or environmental monitoring.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with farmers, government agencies, and scientific partners.

  • Proven ability to manage logistics and coordinate multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and software systems.

  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.

  • Highly organized, reliable, and independent.

  • Willing to travel extensively and work outdoors in agricultural environments within Kazakhstan.

  • Working proficiency in English; fluency in Russian and/or Kazakh.

  • Candidate must be a current resident of Kazakhstan with authorization to work locally.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Agricultural or Environmental Sciences, Physics, Remote Sensing, or a related field.

  • Experience with remote sensing validation or ground-truth data collection campaigns.

  • Familiarity with crop monitoring or irrigation systems.

  • Familiarity with Python programming for data checks and analysis.

  • Experience handling scientific or environmental instruments.

  • Basic understanding of satellite or Earth observation data.
