Job description
We are seeking a hands-on Aerospace Technician to support the build, integration, and test of our multispectral optical payloads for space applications. This role will work closely with mechanical, electrical, and optical engineering teams to assemble, test, and troubleshoot flight and prototype hardware.
This is a highly cross-functional role ideal for someone with experience in one or more technical domains (mechanical, electrical, optical) who is excited to work on complex space hardware in a fast-paced development environment.
Hydrosat is a space and data analytics company building a new Earth Observation constellation and software to unlock the power of thermal infrared imagery. Our mission is to capture and deliver high spatio-temporal resolution thermal infrared data, currently not available from other sources, to provide insights that benefit the environment, enhance food and water security, and serve other critical applications.
Responsibilities
Perform assembly, integration, and test of mechanical, electrical, and opto-mechanical hardware for space-based payloads
Build and route electrical harnessing, perform soldering, and support electronics integration activities
Assemble precision mechanical and opto-mechanical components including structures, mounts, and enclosures
Support optical payload integration including handling, cleaning, and basic alignment of optical components (lenses, sensors, filters, etc.)
Execute test procedures including functional testing, environmental testing (thermal, TVAC, vibration, etc.) and system-level checkouts
Assist engineers with troubleshooting hardware issues and performing root cause investigations
Support prototype builds and iterative hardware development efforts
Maintain detailed build records, test logs, and documentation in accordance with configuration management practices
Work with engineers to develop and improve assembly procedures, test processes, and work instructions
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with applicable workmanship standards and cleanliness requirements
Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to support hardware builds and deliveries
Maintain lab equipment, tools, and workspaces to support safe and efficient operations
Other duties and responsibilities as required
Job requirements
Associates decree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or related field
3+ years of experience in hardware assembly, integration, or test in a lab or production environment

Experience working in at least one of the following areas
Mechanical assembly (precision hardware, fasteners, structures, etc.)
Electrical assembly (wiring, harnessing, soldering, etc.)
Optical or opto-mechanical systems (handling, cleaning, alignment support, etc.)

Familiarity with workmanship standards such as:
ICP-A-610 (electronics assembly)
IPC/WHMA-A-620 (cable and harness assembly)
Relevant NASA workmanship standards (preferred)
Experience reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, and work instructions
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and repeatability

Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced development environment
Nice to have:
Experience supporting space, aerospace, or high-reliability hardware programs
Experience working in cleanroom or controlled environments
Familiarity with optical handling and cleanliness standards (e.g. contamination control practices)
Experience supporting environmental testing (vibration, thermal, TVAC)
Experience with torque tools, bonding, staking, and other aerospace assembly processes
Soldering certification (e.g. J-STD-001)
Experience with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, etc.)
Ability to troubleshoot across mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues
