About Intuitivo

Teachers spend too much time on repetitive tasks like creating and grading assessments, taking away valuable time from their students. At Intuitivo, we're changing that. Our digital platform streamlines the entire assessment process, helping teachers save time and focus on what matters most: teaching.

We're trusted by hundreds of schools and tens of thousands of teachers, and we're just getting started. We're growing the team and expanding to new markets. You'll be joining a small, fast-moving team where you'll have real impact from day one.

Sounds like your kind of thing? Let’s shape the future of education together! 🚀

The Role

We're growing our engineering team and splitting it into three focused domains: core, growth, and exam boards. This role is a junior position within our newest domain: exam boards. You'll work directly alongside a senior engineer who will mentor and support you day-to-day.

The exam boards team owns all features related to national exams: the reliability, the infrastructure, and the product experience that schools and students depend on during the most important moment of the academic year. You'll contribute to systems that handle up to 150,000 concurrent users, learning firsthand what it means to build for scale and correctness.

You'll work across the full stack, getting hands-on experience with backend APIs, database work, and frontend features. You won't be alone, but you will be expected to take initiative, ask good questions, and grow fast. If you're hungry to learn in a small, fast-moving team, this is the role for you.

About You

  • You have 1–3 years of software engineering experience.
  • You have solid backend fundamentals: REST APIs, data modelling, working with a relational database, and you're eager to learn.
  • You've worked with or are comfortable learning Node.js and PostgreSQL.
  • You have working knowledge of React and are comfortable making frontend contributions.
  • You write readable, thoughtful code, and you handle feedback well. You see code review as a learning opportunity.
  • You're curious about how things work under the hood. When something is slow or broken, you like to understand why.
  • You're a good communicator and a team player. In a small team, how you collaborate matters as much as what you build.
  • You're proactive, you don't wait to be told what to do next, and you flag blockers early rather than getting stuck in silence.

Nice to Have

  • Any exposure to cloud infrastructure, even at a hobbyist level (AWS, GCP, or similar).
  • Familiarity with concepts such as caching, queuing, and event-driven architecture, even if you haven't used them in production yet.
  • A genuine interest in education or EdTech.
  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment where things move and change quickly.

Why You'll Love Working With Us

  • 👊 Unique Culture: We take the work seriously but not ourselves. It's a relaxed environment where people help each other out and actually enjoy working and spending time together;
  • 🎯 Impact: We’re still a small team, so everyone has a big impact on the future of the company. Plus, you will be working on an impactful product, with the potential to improve the quality of education all over the world;
  • 👩‍💻 Hybrid Work: We have an amazing office in Porto (UPTEC Asprela), but you have the flexibility to work from home whenever you want;
  • Flexible Schedule: We’re flexible on schedule. If you need to do something outside work during the day, no problem, you can make up for it later. As long as you’re getting the job done, we want you to be free to organize your schedule the way that suits you best;
  • 💻 Tools: We will provide you with a laptop (usually a Macbook, but we can adapt to your preference). A cellphone is also provided to some roles;
  • 🧑‍⚕️ Health Insurance: Health shouldn’t ever be a concern. We provide everyone in the team with a Health Insurance plan, with the option to add family members and upgrade conditions;
  • 🏖️ Annual Retreat: We host at least one 3-day team retreat every year, where we travel, relax, bond over fun activities, and get to know each other better;
  • 🥳 Birthday Off: On top of the usual 22 working days of paid time off + public holidays, you’ll also have at least your birthday and Christmas Eve off.
