Mastitis is the costliest disease that affects dairy cattle with a global loss up to $32 billion annually. The most effective way to prevent mastitis is by early detection. Up until now, the fundamental individual cow based milk testing is all manual based, milk samples collected by hands once a month and sent to a remote lab for processing. Labby has developed an optical sensing solution that enables rapid, low-cost, lab-quality milk testing using advanced mobile spectroscopy and AI to offer milk composition and quality information, including milk fat, protein and somatic cell count (SCC). The milk quality info for each individual cow can be viewed instantly either on the web or a smartphone. This allows farmers to easily identify cows with mastitis to prevent the bulk tank milk contamination and reduce milk production loss.
