As a key player in the Company's future potential, CSO will use scenario modeling to inform large scale strategy decisions, build strong relationships with potential buyers/investors, and understand the intricacies of LawnStarter’s marketplace to maximize value. The CSO will also be responsible for directing the Company’s financial and budget activities to fund operations and increase efficiency, lead various strategic functions and annual and quarterly planning, and devise the company’s long-term strategy and exit plan.
More specifically, the duties of CSO will include:
- Driving business growth while maintaining financial responsibility and identifying strategic risks;
- Analyzing LawnStarter’s operations to evaluate its financial performance and determine areas of potential cost reduction and operational improvement or efficiencies;
- Managing internal financial platforms and technologies (Carta, Rippling, Lattice, Metabase, Ramp, Quickbooks and Fathom);
- Managing relationships with Board of Directors and existing and new investors;
- Leading partnership, investment, acquisition, and fundraising initiatives;
- Structuring and negotiating debt facilities (such as terms loans and lines of credit), and managing LawnStarter’s relationships with financial institutions and creditors;
- Defining 3 year strategy and monetization plan across the organization; including:
- Managing and building relationships with potential buyers, bankers, and external advisors;
- Building list of potential acquirers and strategic rationale for potential acquisition;
- Conducting market research to understand landscape, trends, valuation multiples, etc.;
- Building various operating cases to illustrate potential trade-offs and business outcomes; and
- Building a list of potential acquisition targets and facilitating or managing a relationship with such companies;
- Overseeing and mentoring high-functioning senior management team responsible for finance and/or accounting, legal and human resources functions;
- Building a long-range financial forecast and department level budgets;
- Implementing and managing annual and quarterly strategic/Objectives and Key Results (OKR) planning;
- Planning and leading monthly company-wide all-hands and town hall meetings about corporate strategy and financial goals and accomplishments;
- Participating in the interview and hiring process for senior level roles within the company including salary negotiations and equity considerations;
- Managing marketplace dynamics to ensure financial optimization;
- Coordinating with the executive team, and acting as the public face of the company in the absence of the company’s CEO.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting or Finance, or its foreign equivalent, plus
- Six (6) years of accounting or finance experience as CFO, Head or VP of Finance, Financial Controller, or similar senior financial role;
AND EXPERIENCE MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING, WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN GAINED CONCURRENTLY:
- At least five (5) years of relevant experience working at a high-growth (at least 50% growth year over year) technology company;
- At least three (3) years of senior leadership experience at a marketplace technology company;
- At least one (1) year of M&A experience at a top tier investment bank, focusing on technology and marketplace sectors;
- Proven track record of success with the following experience:
- Leading and implementing a successful acquisition, including managing the valuation and diligence process (both buy and sell-side), negotiations of price and structure (i.e cash and stock consideration) for a marketplace company;
- Participation in a complete IPO process (i.e from prospectus/S-1 drafting to first day of trading);
- Running a dual track (fundraising and acquisition) process;
- Managing and building investor relations function;
- Leading annual and quarterly strategic planning/OKR sessions;
- Completing financial audits for early-stage and/or growth stage companies;
- Introducing and implementing “Scaling up” process across an organization;
- Negotiating and implementing a debt facility as well as convertible note;
- Developing new revenue streams and monetization strategies;
- Building and managing complex financial models with scenario analyses;
- Drafting and executing management press releases and financial communications (including, earnings commentary, investor commentary, press releases etc.);
- Leading company-wide all-hands and town hall meetings;
- Experience overseeing and mentoring senior management roles in finance and/or accounting, legal and/or human resources;
- Experience and proficiency working with internal financial and management systems and technologies (including Carta, Metabase, Tableau, Ramp, Quickbooks, Fathom and Excel); and
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
