Lena Health
About Lena Health
Healthcare today is complex, confusing, and often frustrating. Appointments are hard to get, finding in-network doctors is a challenge, and understanding doctor recommendations and coverage details can be overwhelming. At Lena Health, we believe everyone deserves a trusted care coordinator to navigate this logistical maze with ease.
Lena is a telephonic AI coordinator that takes on the burden of care coordination by making calls to clinics, insurance companies, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers on behalf of patients. We empower payers and health systems to make healthcare and social navigation scalable and accessible to more patients through two transformative offerings:
- Lena AI: Agentic voice AI that automates care coordination at scale.
- Human+AI Service: A wrap-around model that integrates deeply with patients' primary care teams to deliver personalized support.
At Lena Health, we’re not just building technology—we’re creating a future where patients receive the care they need, when they need it, without the stress of navigating healthcare alone. Join us to help transform the way people experience healthcare, one interaction at a time.
We are seeking a Data Engineer to help bring this transformative vision to life. If you are ready to build technology that fundamentally changes how people experience healthcare, we want you to join us.
About the Role
As a Data Engineer at Lena Health, you will design and maintain the data infrastructure that powers our AI-powered telephonic coordinator agents. In this role, you will be responsible for building robust, secure, and scalable data pipelines that capture, process, and analyze conversational data. Your work will be instrumental in generating insights that inform product strategy, improve agent performance, and ultimately drive better healthcare experiences for patients and providers.
You will collaborate closely with our AI Engineers, Product Managers, and Platform teams to ensure our data ecosystem integrates seamlessly with Lena Health’s architecture. You’ll also help define the standards, tools, and processes for data governance, ensuring that all data is stored and handled securely in compliance with healthcare regulations like HIPAA.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):
Data Pipeline Development
- Build and optimize batch and real-time pipelines to ingest conversation data (voice, text transcripts, metadata) from various sources.
- Ensure the pipelines are scalable, reliable, and cost-effective, meeting the evolving needs of our AI-driven products.
Data Modeling & Architecture
- Design logical and physical data models tailored to AI, analytics, and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with AI and Product teams to define data schemas for conversation events, performance metrics, and user feedback.
Performance Tracking & Dashboards
- Partner with the AI Engineer and Senior Product Manager to develop dashboards that visualize call metrics, agent performance, and user satisfaction scores.
- Implement data transformations and aggregations to produce real-time and historical analytics on agent outcomes.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Enforce data security and privacy best practices to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
- Establish data governance processes, including access control, data lineage, and documentation.
Collaboration & Alignment
- Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders—AI, Platform, Full Stack, and Product—to understand data requirements, troubleshoot issues, and propose innovative solutions.
- Communicate complex data topics to non-technical audiences, providing clear, actionable insights.
Tooling & Automation
- Evaluate and implement best-in-class data engineering tools, frameworks, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Automate repetitive tasks such as data validation, testing, and deployment to increase productivity and reduce errors.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data engineering, analytics, and healthcare IT.
- Proactively propose architectural enhancements and process refinements that align with Lena Health’s long-term growth.
Who You Are
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering or related fields (software engineering, data analytics, etc.).
- Proficiency in building scalable data pipelines using modern technologies (e.g., Python/Scala, Spark, Kafka, Airflow, dbt).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and data warehousing solutions (Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, etc.).
- Familiarity with healthcare data formats (HL7, FHIR) and compliance standards (HIPAA) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of relational databases, NoSQL stores, and data modeling principles.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of partnering effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s a plus).
