Localize is seeking an energetic, growth-minded Engineering Manager to join our US-based remote team.
In this Engineering Manager role, you'll oversee a small team of software engineers across our remote organization. You'll lead this teams through all phases of the software development lifecycle, mentoring their professional growth and driving their success. Your leadership will play a key role in shaping our engineering practices and contributing to product strategy and execution. You will collaborate with a talented cross-functional team of Product and Design and oversee Agile ceremonies, set coding and testing standards, and ensure the quality of deliverables. Your leadership will be essential in building scalable technology, promoting innovation and efficiency within the team, and ensuring the successful delivery of software solutions. This role will report to the Head of Engineering.
Responsibilities:
Lead and grow a remote engineering teams, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to team members
Oversee the quality of engineers' deliverables, including coding, testing, and debugging, to maintain high standards of software quality
Provide coaching in Agile practices, product management, software architecture, and individual growth, contributing to team development
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture, emphasizing innovation and continuous improvement
Cultivate a customer-focused ethos, instilling a passion for success within the team
Deliver projects on time and within scope in a distributed workforce setting
Implement effective project management strategies to mitigate risks and ensure successful project outcomes
Continuously seek innovation and process improvement opportunities, finding efficiencies in all assigned tasks to drive the team's success
Lead the design and implementation of software solutions ensuring scalability, modularity, and maintainability; expect to be reviewing code, and coding where it’s needed to move the team along
Technologies: Experience with these specific technologies a plus, but not strictly required
Frontend: Javascript, React, Redux, Backbone, Handlebars, Less
Backend: Javascript, Node, Express, Mongoose
Datastores: MongoDB (Mongoose.js ODM), Redis, S3
Infrastructure: AWS: Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, Elasticache, Cloudfront, Route53, etc
DevOps / Misc: Git/Github, Jira, CircleCI, Mocha
Qualifications:
Combination of a highly technical software engineering leader and an effective people manager with 3+ years of experience managing and 5+ years in software engineering
Experience leading geographically diverse engineering teams in today’s remote first work environment
Proven success with accountability and leading a team through complex challenges
Successful track record of identifying roadblocks and keeping teams on track
Coach and train team on Software Development processes and best practices
Set clear objectives and goals for the team and motivate from within the team to help them deliver upon those goals, and continually assess progress and drive improvement
Experience conducting interviews and hiring for your team
Comfortable guiding the team strategically as well as contributing hands on where it’s needed to support the team
Experience in negotiating cross-functional projects and driving business growth
Experience partnering with cross functional teams to build the best customer experience, help drive architecture, define best practices and enable product quality
Experience developing SaaS applications/platforms

About Localize:
The Localize platform is used by 700+ companies to automate the translation of their web and mobile applications and bring their products & services to new markets at record speed. We help companies like Ahrefs to translate their website, NYU Langone Health to translate their urgent care scheduling page, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney to translate their international admissions page. To see our product in action, click any of those links and use the website's language switcher to switch from English to another language.
Localize works by providing a code snippet (similar to the Google Analytics JavaScript snippet) that our customers add to their website/web app. The Localize snippet pulls in content from the page into the Localize dashboard where our customers log in to add translations and manage their content. Localize automatically deploys those translations to the customer's production site, reducing development costs and accelerating time to market.
