About this Opportunity
We’re seeking an Assistant Controller to join our growing finance team. This role requires experience in financial operations for marketplaces and hardware, with a focus on scaling processes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you’ll take ownership of the month-end close, financial controls, and reporting, while working across teams to build a financial foundation that supports hyper-growth.
This is a hands-on role for a detail-oriented, strategic thinker who thrives on solving complex challenges in a high-growth startup.
Responsibilities
Marketplace & Hardware Financial Operations:
Oversee accounting processes related to marketplace transactions, including receivables, payables, and hardware inventory.
Implement systems to track and reconcile marketplace revenue, costs, and transaction flow.
Month-End Close:
Ensure the integrity of accounting information by leading the month-end close process.
Record, verify, and consolidate financial transactions in the general ledger, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
Scalable Financial Infrastructure:
Design and implement financial controls and processes tailored to the needs of a hardware-driven marketplace.
Document and maintain systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and support growth.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and deliver insights on KPIs and operational trends.
Analyze financial results, identify opportunities for improvement, and support strategic decision-making.
Startup Agility & Cross-Functional Projects:
Work across teams to support initiatives like ERP implementations, tax compliance, and process optimization.
Manage or contribute to special projects aligned with the company’s growth and operational goals.
Who You Are:
Finance Expert: You bring 5+ years of experience in finance or accounting, with a background in marketplaces or hardware-focused businesses. You’re skilled in managing transaction flows, inventory, and revenue recognition.
GAAP Knowledgeable: You have a strong understanding of GAAP principles and financial reporting, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all financial operations.
Technically Proficient: You’re comfortable with ERP systems, QuickBooks, and other financial tools, with a track record of implementing and managing scalable financial controls.
Analytical & Organized: You thrive on solving complex financial challenges, with sharp analytical skills and the ability to manage large datasets while staying detail-oriented.
Startup-Ready: You’re adaptable and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You approach challenges with an entrepreneurial mindset, always looking for scalable solutions.
Additional Qualifications
CPA, CFA, or equivalent certification.
Hands-on experience in a hardware or marketplace startup, particularly during early growth stages.
Experience with ERP systems, QuickBooks, and tax compliance.
Familiarity with multi-state sales tax for hardware transactions.
