The engineering team at SwapRetail is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help us transition from a scrappy startup into an efficient business. Our mission as a team is to get our retailer platform ready for a globally known accelerator program this March, it’s an exciting time for
us! You’ll work with our engineers, QA team and company leadership to grow the team from a Seed to Series A startup. We are looking for someone who is a driven person and self starter who can take on ownership responsibilities without being micromanaged.
Day To Day, You'll
SwapRetail is a B2B marketplace helping independent retailers and brands sell their unsold inventory. Our network has grown to 1,500+ retailers, 600+ brands with $6mm in listed inventory. We have developed an ecosystem that enables brands and retailers to resell their unsold inventory to buyers; independent retailers via our B2B marketplace, end-consumers via B2C partners and global off-price retailers via liquidation.
We believe that there is a rightful home for each piece of the $113B unsold inventory problem (in the US alone, annually) and we're building the bridge so that supply can meet demand - fast. Swap Retail changes the lives of independent retailers and brands because their success depends
on how quickly their inventory turns.

Day To Day, You'll
- Collaborate with the engineering team, design & contractors to build the next version of our retailer and brand B2B marketplace
- Influence the technical direction for the team and strategic direction of the product
- Work with the Product Manager and Head of Engineering to deliver tools & features for our customers and for the team at SwapRetail
- Work with Frontend development to deliver updates to our API
- Have ownership over various aspects of our backend architecture and guide the team on best practices and architecture decisions
- Develop new features and address bug reports from QA on our Django REST API application
- Has 5+ years of backend development experience
- Has experience collaborating with a wide range of teams and job functions
- Has experience developing Python & Django applications deployed in Docker
- Has experience designing high performance RESTful APIs using Django Rest Framework
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Is an advocate for test driven development
- Has experience with Agile methodologies
- You have experience leading cross-team projects
- You have experience working with the Shopify API
- You have experience working on production code in React or Ruby
- You have experience with AWS services, preferably Elastic Beanstalk & Kubernetes
- You have experience working with Elasticsearch
- You have experience working with an early(ish) stage startup
