About MediCircle

MediCircle is building the national infrastructure to make prescription drugs affordable. Today, billions of dollars of perfectly usable medications go unused, while patients are forced to skip or abandon life-saving treatments due to cost. We exist to change that.

MediCircle reclaims unused medications, recertifies their quality using our patented process, and redistributes them through our licensed pharmacy. In doing so, we provide patients with medications at zero out-of-pocket cost, while generating savings for our payer, plan sponsor, and value-based care clients.

We are a VC-backed, early-stage healthcare technology company with a proven model and accelerating growth:

  • $65M+ in medications reclaimed to date

  • Active partnerships with market-leading customers, including national VBCs, PBMs, and regional health systems

  • Rapidly expanding demand across enterprise and government channels

If our mission resonates with you, you are interested in joining a high-growth healthcare company, and you are energized by directly impacting the lives of millions of patients who can no longer access or afford their medications, we would love to hear from you.

Role Overview

You will partner side by side with MediCircle’s Head of Technology to architect and scale the technical foundation that powers MediCircle's national medication redistribution platform.

As MediCircle’s Vice President of Engineering, you will own engineering strategy, organizational design, talent, execution, and technical operations. You will partner with the Head of Technology, founders, and executive team to translate the company’s vision and growth objectives into a long-term technology strategy and a disciplined, scalable engineering roadmap.

You will inherit an early technical foundation and lead its evolution into an enterprise-grade platform capable of supporting increasingly complex pharmacy operations, patient workflows, customer integrations, and regulatory requirements. You will ensure that MediCircle’s technology remains reliable, secure, adaptable, and capable of operating nationally as dispensing volume, customer complexity, and organizational demands grow.

This role extends beyond managing software delivery. You will partner with MediCircle's Head of Technology to design the engineering organization MediCircle needs for its next stage, recruit and develop exceptional leaders and engineers, define how the technology team operates, establish measurable standards for performance and reliability, and make thoughtful decisions about architecture, infrastructure, security, AI, internal tooling, and technical investment.

The ideal candidate has previously scaled an engineering organization and a mission-critical technology platform through a significant period of growth. You are an executive leader with deep technical credibility, strong business judgment, and a track record of recruiting and managing high-performing teams that move quickly without compromising quality, security, or reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Own engineering strategy: Develop and execute a multi-year engineering strategy aligned with MediCircle’s business model, product roadmap, customer commitments, regulatory obligations, and national expansion.

  • Build the engineering organization: Design the organizational structure, leadership model, hiring plan, career framework, and operating practices required to scale the engineering function.

  • Lead and develop engineering talent: Recruit, manage, and develop engineering leaders and senior technical talent. Establish a culture of high ownership, clear accountability, thoughtful decision-making, and continuous improvement.

  • Own engineering delivery: Establish transparent planning, prioritization, and delivery processes. Ensure engineering resources are aligned with the company’s highest-impact opportunities and commitments.

  • Guide platform architecture: Oversee the evolution of MediCircle’s application architecture, integrations, infrastructure, and technical foundations. Ensure systems can support national scale and increasing operational complexity.

  • Ensure reliability, security, and compliance: Own the technical systems and practices supporting availability, data integrity, cybersecurity, privacy, incident response, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance.

  • Partner with executive leadership: Advise the founders and executive team on technical strategy, organizational capacity, investment priorities, delivery risks, customer requirements, and the business implications of technology decisions.

  • Strengthen product and operational collaboration: Build effective partnerships across product, pharmacy operations, patient operations, growth/partnerships, and customer-facing teams. Ensure technical investments produce measurable value for users and the business.

  • Advance MediCircle’s AI strategy: Identify opportunities to implement and leverage AI across product development, pharmacy and patient operations, internal workflows, and engineering productivity. Establish responsible standards and effective decision making frameworks for evaluating and deploying AI-enabled capabilities.

  • Manage technical risk and investment: Make disciplined build-versus-buy decisions, oversee technical debt, manage engineering budgets and vendors, and balance near-term execution with long-term platform durability.

  • Represent engineering externally: Build credibility with customers, partners, investors, regulators, and prospective hires when senior technical leadership is required.

Requirements

  • 9-12+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial experience building and operating complex production platforms.

  • 4-6+ years of engineering leadership experience, including experience managing engineering managers or multiple engineering teams.

  • Previous experience serving as a VP of Engineering, Head of Engineering, senior engineering director, or comparable leader during a significant stage of company and organizational growth.

  • Demonstrated success scaling an engineering organization, including recruiting leaders, designing team structures, establishing management practices, and developing technical talent.

  • Experience owning engineering strategy and execution across architecture, application development, infrastructure, reliability, security, and technical operations.

  • Track record of scaling a mission-critical platform through substantial increases in users, customer complexity, and/or regulatory requirements.

  • Strong technical depth in modern backend architecture, APIs, cloud infrastructure, security, and software development practices.

  • Experience establishing effective planning, prioritization, performance management, and execution across an engineering organization.

  • Strong business and product judgment, including the ability to evaluate technical investments based on customer value, company strategy, risk, cost, and speed.

  • Experience partnering with founders and executive leaders and communicating technical opportunities, constraints, and risks to nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to balance rapid execution with reliability, security, compliance, and long-term architectural quality.

  • You actively stay on top of emerging AI technologies and how they can improve engineering productivity or product capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • You have healthcare/pharmacy exposure and familiarity with regulated ops (clinical, pharmacy, payer/PBM, or analogous); if not, you have previously worked and/or currently work in regulated or compliance-heavy environments.

  • You have engineering leadership experience at an early-stage startup or within a similar fast-paced, high-growth environment.

  • You have experience helping a company progress from founder-led or early technical development to a structured, scalable engineering organization.

  • You have experience developing and executing an AI strategy spanning both customer-facing products and internal operations.
