We are building a portfolio that connects financial inclusion with climate action. Our credit team sits at the heart of this mission, ensuring every facility is sound, compliant, and impactful. As Melanin Kapital scales its portfolio of green and inclusive SMEs across Africa, we’re looking for a Senior Credit Officer to join our Credit Team focusing on the Eastern African and Southern African region (in particular for Angola and Mozambique).

The role in a nutshell

You’ll play a key role in how we evaluate, manage, and report on the businesses we finance those driving climate-smart innovation and economic inclusion on the continent. You will lead business development efforts as well as a team of 2-3 officers and review their analysis and credit memos before submitting them to the credit committee.

This is a hands-on role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, supporting pipeline generation, credit disbursements and relationship management. You’ll oversee the full credit cycle: from credit memo preparation and committee support to portfolio tracking, repayments, and impact reporting. You’ll be expected to take ownership of your work, maintain precision in documentation, and collaborate closely with the credit, finance, and impact teams.

Your Day-to-Day

· Review pipeline of pre-selected businesses.

· Review and prepare credit memos and committee papers.

· Review and circulate Credit Committee minutes and follow up on approvals.

· Track portfolio performance, repayments, and client communications.

· Ensure that all junior officers maintain updated data in our Loan Management System (LMS) and CRM.

· Support due diligence and financial analysis for loan assessments.

· Oversee disbursement notes and assist in legal documentation tracking.

· Ensure that all junior officers collect and consolidate impact data for quarterly reporting.

· Contribute to internal and external reports and communication materials.

You’re a Great Fit If You:

• 5+ years of experience in credit administration, financial analysis, and/or portfolio management.
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
• Enjoy working with data, documentation, and financial statements.
• Experience using loan management systems, CRMs, or financial reporting tools.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Familiarity with credit analysis and financial statement review.
• Team-oriented and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Interested in growing your career in credit, impact investing, or sustainable finance.
• English and Portuguese languages are required. French language is a plus.
