We have an electrostatic actuation technique that uses an array of electrodes parallel to the mesh reflector surface to apply a bias voltage across the gap separating them. This allows the reflector to be dynamically reshaped on-orbit. We can command each electrode individually, allowing asymmetric reshaping for beam steering and focusing. We can correct surface error, permitting higher-gain lightweight antennas & ground-breaking atmospheric radar instruments.
