SteadyIQ is seeking a Director of Engineering, AI & Automation to lead engineering execution across our frontend, backend, and QA teams as we scale our B2G2C SaaS platform.
Reporting to the VP of Product, this role will own engineering delivery, product quality, development practices, and the implementation of AI and automation across the software development lifecycle. A key mandate for this role is to move the organization beyond individual use of AI tools and into structured agentic engineering workflows that improve development speed, QA coverage, release confidence, documentation, and overall product quality.
We are looking for a hands-on engineering leader with strong technical judgment, high quality standards, and the ability to operationalize AI, coding agents, automation, and modern developer workflows across engineering and QA. This person should help the team move faster, reduce manual work, improve consistency, and ship high-quality product without lowering the bar on reliability, maintainability, or security.
Responsibilities
- Lead frontend, backend, and QA execution across internal and external contributors.
- Own engineering delivery, sprint and release planning, technical quality, and day-to-day execution.
- Partner with Product to turn product strategy, customer needs, and business priorities into clear engineering plans.
- Work closely with the Chief Architect and Solutions Architect to ensure implementation aligns with architecture, scalability needs, enterprise requirements, and technical direction.
- Drive delivery of high-quality SaaS products with strong standards for code quality, performance, testing, documentation, and release readiness.
- Build a practical AI and agentic engineering operating model that uses coding agents, automation, QA tooling, and workflow redesign to increase engineering velocity, improve quality, and reduce repetitive manual work.
- Partner with QA leadership to improve automation, regression prevention, defect tracking, test coverage, and release confidence.
- Set and enforce standards for code reviews, pull requests, technical design reviews, AI usage, secure development practices, and engineering documentation.
- Partner with the CISO, Chief Architect, and security stakeholders to support SOC 2, NIST-aligned, and secure SDLC requirements.
- Recruit, mentor, manage, and develop engineering talent while building a culture of ownership, high standards, fast execution, and disciplined use of modern tools.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in full-stack development.
- 3+ years of engineering management experience, including team leadership, delivery ownership, hiring, performance management, and resource planning.
- Experience leading engineering teams that have shipped scalable, high-quality SaaS products.
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to guide implementation decisions, review complex work, challenge assumptions, and collaborate effectively with architecture leadership.
- Experience moving engineering teams beyond individual use of AI coding tools into structured workflows for coding, review, testing, QA, documentation, and release execution.
- Experience establishing standards, workflows, or guardrails for how engineering teams use AI tools, coding agents, automation, or developer productivity systems.
- Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, observability, release management, and secure SDLC practices.
- Experience with modern web application development using React, Next.js, TypeScript, tRPC, Node.js, or comparable technologies.
- Experience working in cloud-based SaaS environments, ideally with exposure to AWS, GCP, or both.
- Ability to balance product quality, technical excellence, delivery speed, customer needs, and business priorities.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across Product, Engineering, QA, Sales, Strategy, security, and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in B2B, B2G, GovTech, fintech, enterprise SaaS, or other high-trust software environments.
- Familiarity with SOC 2, NIST, security reviews, audit readiness, or customer compliance requirements.
- Experience managing blended teams of internal engineers, external developers, contractors, and QA resources.
- Experience with Vercel, Postgres, Prisma, Supabase, Trigger.dev, workflow automation, background jobs, or comparable platforms.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, or production operations.
- Experience partnering with QA leadership or test automation teams to improve product quality and release confidence.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
