Space Hardware Manufacturing & Test Specialist
About the Position
The Space Hardware Manufacturing & Test Specialist will be responsible for the assembly, testing, and quality assurance of high-reliability electronic and mechanical components used in space applications. The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical expertise with strong attention to detail and a commitment to aerospace-grade quality. This role demands the ability to interpret complex engineering documentation and perform both functional and environmental testing to validate product performance under extreme conditions.
Location: Orlando, FL
Key responsibilities:
- Execute and optimize assembly processes for space-grade electronic and mechanical components, ensuring compliance with aerospace quality standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, ECSS).
- Interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and work instructions to accurately build, inspect, and troubleshoot products throughout the production cycle.
- Support production readiness and continuous improvement initiatives, including tooling setup, process documentation, and feedback to design teams for manufacturability.
- Execute functional and environmental tests on electronic and mechanical assemblies, ensuring conformance to space-grade performance and reliability requirements (e.g., thermal cycling, vibration, electrical validation).
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for production issues, working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve non-conformances.
- Ensure traceability and quality records, ensuring all manufacturing steps are documented in accordance with internal procedures and product compliance. Manage test data, calibration records, and quality control metrics throughout the production lifecycle.
REQUIRED education, work experience, knowledge/skills:
- Understanding of IPC standard
- Experience: 3+ years in manufacturing and testing of electronic systems.
- Cable & Harness Assembly: Experience in crimping, soldering and wire stripping.
- Testing Knowledge: Familiarity with functional and environmental testing (e.g., vibration, thermal cycling, electrical test protocols).
- Documentation & Traceability: Strong command of documentation control, traceability practices, and use of digital quality systems.
- Reading & Interpretation: Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, BOMs, PCB Layouts or gerbers, and work instructions.
- Tools & Instrumentation: Skilled in using soldering equipment, microscopes, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and thermal chambers.
- Problem Solving: Capable of supporting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions in a production environment.
- Communication: Able to clearly document and communicate findings and contribute effectively to cross-functional teams.
Additional requirements:
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted
- May be required to work overtime, and/or weekends as needed
DESIRABLE education, work experience, knowledge/skills:
- Experience in the aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics industry.
- Use of quality control equipment, such as Thermal Cycling and TVAC chambers and Shaker.
