In fact, we run our company with that principle in mind every day: one of our core values is fun.The Workday Developer Platform team seeks a senior development engineer to drive the development and modernization of new platform capabilities, focusing on enhancing UI Platform backend services for our FedRamp customers. This role will improve the security, resiliency, and reliability of our backend end services to support Workday's continued growth. Our mission is to empower developers to solve the user experience problems of today and tomorrow.
About the Role
This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government which, due to federal government security requirements, mandates that all Workday personnel working on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native).
Role & Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize within the air-gapped U.S. cloud regions for our web application server. (AWS, GCP)
- Collaborate closely with our software development teams responsible for the UI platform and the features they deliver.
- Partner with the Workday Federal Cyber Defense team to ensure security operations, cybersecurity posture, governance, risk, compliance, and platform security health
- Collaborate across teams to ensure robust, scalable, and efficient solutions
Skills:
- Cloud Platforms & Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Terraform
- Containerization & Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm
- CI/CD & DevOps Tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions
- Programming & Scripting Languages: Java, Kotlin
- Database & Middleware: Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ
About You
Basic Qualifications:
5+ Experience in implementing and understanding Object-Oriented Programming and common design patterns (MVC, Inversion of Control, Event-driven systems)
5+ years of coding experience with server-side development utilizing Java/Kotlin as the primary language and exposure to related technologies like Spring
3+ years of experience of designing and leading features with strong focus on non-functional requirements (scalability, performance, security, maintenance, etc.)
3+ years of leading technical initiatives within team or department
Experience in technical mentorships, i.e. helping other engineers grow their skills
Experience driving cross-team dependencies and projects
Other Qualifications:
Experience in designing and deploying modular and maintainable user interfaces leveraging component-based architectures
Hands-on with testing, build automation, continuous deployments, and monitoring, in addition to design and implementation of large enterprise web applications
Demonstrated ability to work on features involving multiple platforms / teams
Takes ownership to drive projects to completion and overcome roadblocks with positivity and creativity
Familiarity with the development challenges inherent with highly scalable and available web applications
Experience on RESTful web service development is a plus
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Self-motivator and a strong sense of ownership
Ability to balance urgency with shipping high-quality and pragmatic solution

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
