The Team
The Director of People Operations will serve as a strategic People partner embedded within the Tax People Operations function, supporting the US Tax practice broadly. This role works collaboratively across the People Team and with Tax leadership to support consistent, high-quality people programs, processes, and experiences. The position focuses on enabling the business through thoughtful people strategies, strong execution, and alignment with firmwide and Global People Organization priorities.
This role is well-suited for a leader who balances strategic perspective with practical execution, contributes to People initiatives across Tax, and supports leaders and teams through periods of growth and change.
How You Will Contribute
- Partner with Tax leadership, the People Team, and the Global People Organization to support alignment on people priorities, workforce needs, and key initiatives across the Tax practice.
- Utilize workforce data and insights to support informed decision-making related to organizational design, capacity planning, and talent programs.
- Contribute to the development and execution of People programs that support performance, engagement, and career development across the Tax practice.
- Collaborate with Talent Acquisition and onboarding partners to support hiring and integration needs, ensuring alignment with broader workforce planning and diversity objectives.
- Partner with Learning & Development and Tax leadership to support learning initiatives that address technical, professional, and leadership development needs.
- Support career architecture, succession planning, and mentorship efforts that promote internal mobility and long-term development.
- Act as a trusted People advisor to leaders and managers by providing guidance on organizational effectiveness, employee relations, and change initiatives impacting the Tax practice.
- Support the execution of core talent management processes, including performance management, onboarding, and employee lifecycle activities, in partnership with People Team colleagues.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability as business needs evolve, contributing to both ongoing operations and special projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; equivalent professional experience considered. Experience in Professional Services is preferred. Advanced degree(s) or certification(s) (e.g., SHRM-SCP, PMP) are a plus but not required.
- 10+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or Talent Management within a professional services or consulting environment, including prior experience in a leadership or senior individual contributor capacity.
- Experience supporting People programs and initiatives across multiple business areas or stakeholder groups.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret data, manage change, and collaborate effectively with leaders and peers.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, build trust, and partner effectively across diverse teams and functions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Power BI for reporting, analysis, and presentations.

Provided the eligibility requirements are met, employees will also receive an annual discretionary contribution to their 401(k) retirement savings plan from Alvarez & Marsal. Additionally, employees are eligible for paid time off including vacation, personal days, seventy-two (72) hours of sick time (prorated for part time employees), ten federal holidays, one floating holiday, and parental leave. The salary range is $150,000 - $180,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
