NU Advisory Partners has been retained to lead the search for a Vice President, People for a high-growth, venture-backed technology company entering a critical scale phase. This leader will build and lead the full People function, partnering closely with the executive team to translate rapid business growth into intentional hiring, strong culture, leadership capability, and scalable people systems. The role requires a strategic operator who can introduce structure without bureaucracy and ensure the organization scales with clarity, performance discipline, and cultural integrity.

Key Responsibilities
People Strategy & Executive Partnership
- Own and evolve the company’s People strategy in alignment with business objectives and growth plans.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team on organizational design, workforce planning, leadership capability, and culture.
- Build a clear operating model for the People function that scales with company complexity.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Lead end-to-end talent strategy, including role scoping, competency frameworks, and hiring prioritization.
- Oversee recruiting infrastructure, employer brand positioning, and performance metrics.
- Partner with Finance and functional leaders on headcount planning and forecasting.
- Ensure a consistent, high-quality, and equitable candidate experience.
Culture & Employee Experience
- Steward culture and values through periods of rapid growth and change.
- Strengthen employee engagement, communication practices, and performance accountability.
- Design programs that promote inclusion, retention, and long-term career development.
People Operations & Infrastructure
- Oversee compliance, compensation philosophy, benefits strategy, and HR systems.
- Establish reliable people analytics and dashboards for executive and board-level reporting.
- Build scalable processes across onboarding, performance management, and total rewards.
Leadership Development & Organizational Effectiveness
- Implement leadership development programs, coaching frameworks, and feedback systems.
- Guide leaders through org design decisions, change management initiatives, and cross-functional alignment.
- Create clear expectations, performance standards, and talent calibration processes.
Team Building & Capability Development
- Build and mentor a lean, high-performing People team.
- Introduce operational discipline and clarity of ownership within the function.
- Ensure People becomes a strategic enablement engine rather than an administrative function.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience serving as the senior-most People leader within a high-growth, venture-backed or scaling organization.
- This role is based in San Francisco, with an expectation of regular in-person presence.
- Demonstrated success building People teams, systems, and infrastructure during periods of rapid expansion.
- Strong background across recruiting, HR operations, compliance, performance management, and organizational development.
- Proven ability to translate company objectives into actionable People initiatives.
- Experience scaling organizations through significant headcount growth.
- Hands-on builder mindset with the ability to balance long-term strategy and near-term execution.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence founders, executives, and boards.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with evolving structure.
