CBIZ Private Equity Advisory – Interim CFOs, Controllers and VP Finance Professionals

CBIZ Private Equity Advisory is expanding our network of finance professionals to support our privately held clients with high-impact interim leadership roles. We are seeking experienced CFOs, VP Finance professionals and Controllers to lead critical finance initiatives on a project basis, driving post-transaction transformations, securing talent gaps and providing operational improvements.

As part of CBIZ Private Equity Advisory, you will work closely with private equity sponsors, portfolio company leadership, and client service teams to deliver meaningful results. These engagements offer flexibility while allowing you to make an impact in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

While some engagements may offer a path to permanent roles, we are particularly interested in professionals who thrive in a project-based environment, working closely with our client service teams, leadership, and private equity sponsors.

Key Responsibilities (Engagement-Specific, May Include):

• With the support of our broader practice, lead post-close financial integration efforts for private equity-backed companies, including enhancing reporting structures, cash management, KPI development, and operational finance processes.
• Manage and enhance month-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with financial reporting requirements.
• Oversee day-to-day internal accounting functions, providing hands-on leadership to finance teams and driving best practices.
• Prepare and present financial reports, board materials, and investor communications for executive leadership and sponsors.
• Develop and implement strategic finance initiatives to drive profitability, scalability, and operational improvements.
• Support financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting efforts to align with growth and investment objectives.
• Ensure compliance with financial and regulatory requirements, including lender reporting, covenant compliance, and audit readiness.
• Act as a trusted advisor to portfolio company executives and private equity sponsors.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• A proven finance leader with extensive experience in private equity-backed environments, including direct sponsor interactions.
• Hands-on executive with the ability to drive operational and financial improvements in fast-growth settings.
• Deep expertise in transaction-related finance, including post-close integration and financial reporting enhancements.
• Executive presence and ability to build strong relationships with PE sponsors, board members, and leadership teams.
• Strong technical proficiency in financial reporting, lender compliance, and accounting operations.
• Ability to thrive in a project-based environment with a results-oriented mindset.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in finance leadership roles, with at least 5 years as a Controller, VP of Finance, or CFO.
• Direct experience in PE-backed companies, including working with sponsors, lenders, and M&A teams.
• Strong understanding of post-close balance sheet adjustments, valuation workstreams, and transaction accounting.
• Ability to travel based on client needs and location.
• Public accounting foundation and broad industry experience are a plus.
