Duties:

We are seeking a senior contractor to join our HR People Technology team on a retainer basis to design, build, and continuously improve AI-powered tools and automations across the HR function. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role for someone who thrives on turning real HR pain points into working solutions — whether that's an intelligent onboarding workflow, an automated policy assistant, or a smart recruiting pipeline. You'll work closely with HR leadership and operational staff to scope, build, and iterate on impactful AI tools.

Key Responsibilities

• AI Tool Development: Build and deploy production-ready AI-powered tools for HR use cases, including document processing, employee-facing chatbots, workflow automations, and decision-support systems.

• Process Automation: Identify manual or repetitive HR processes and engineer scalable automations using AI/ML, RPA, or integration platforms.

• Integration & Deployment: Connect AI tools with existing HR systems (HRIS, Workday ATS, ServiceNow ticketing, etc.), ensuring seamless data flow and user experience.

• Iteration & Maintenance: Continuously monitor, refine, and improve deployed tools based on user feedback and performance metrics.

• Technical Documentation: Produce clear technical documentation for all tools built, enabling internal teams to maintain and evolve solutions over time.

• Collaboration: Work directly with HR Operations staff to gather requirements, run pilots, and ensure adoption of new tools.

Skills:

Required Qualifications

• 6–10 years of experience in software engineering, HR technology, or AI/ML engineering, with a strong portfolio of delivered tools or automations

• Proficiency in one or more of the following: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar languages used in automation and AI development

• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft) and prompt engineering for enterprise applications

• Experience with automation platforms such as Power Automate, Zapier, Make, or custom-built integration frameworks

• Solid understanding of HR workflows and the employee lifecycle

• Ability to independently scope, build, and ship tools with minimal oversight

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating AI tools with HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, BambooHR)

• Familiarity with HR data privacy requirements (GDPR, CCPA) as applied to AI systems

• Prior retainer or ongoing consulting engagements with HR or People Operations teams

• Experience with vector databases, RAG architectures, or knowledge management systems

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 90 days, the ideal contractor will have:

• Completed a technical discovery of current HR systems and automation opportunities

• Delivered at least two working AI tools or automations

• Established a backlog of prioritized build requests with the HR Operations team

• Documented all tools with clear handoff and maintenance guides
