TLDR; looking for a passionate d3 Visualization Designer who wants to make beautiful visualizations accessible to all!
OpenAxis is looking for a Data Visualization Designer to help us change how the world looks at data, from those reading the news, to independent writers, and data & visualization enthusiasts.
We seek a talented individual who possesses a real passion for visualizations. If you like creating visualizations in d3 and love thinking about the best way to communicate data by creating interesting visualizations, you will love this role.
You'll partner with our head of product & head of design to create beautiful & meaningful visualizations that will be used and seen by millions of people. This is an incredible opportunity to make an impact on the future of OpenAxis.
OpenAxis: Mission
OpenAxis (Techstars ‘21) is a venture-backed startup simplifying and democratizing data storytelling. It is a platform where anyone can easily share and visualize data to tell stories.
We believe that by equipping people with transparent data and simple tools, communities will crowdsource insights and come to their own data-informed conclusions on topics that matter.
As we build a community of data explorers and storytellers, we will engender a culture of data literacy and transparency.
Responsibilities:
Create great looking and compelling visualizations in d3 (both static and dynamic)
Create various templates and themes to fit different audiences and user personas
Adopt themes from various partners and apply it to graphs, visualizations, and infographics
Work closely with data analysts to determine the best ways to create interesting, informative, and useful visuals and have a vision for how to turn data sets into visual stories.
Ensure visual consistency of the various themes and templates across various customer touchpoints and different platforms across mobile and web
The Ideal Candidate has:
Expertise and comfort in creating great visual designs and data visualizations with an eye for color, spacing, typography and visual storytelling
Comfort with design principles on a practical and conceptual level so that you can discuss, grow, and share your understanding of visual communication, color, balance, shapes, space, typography, and form
Experience working with design systems and guidelines
Proficiency with the visual presentation of data
A strong portfolio of work
Desired Experience:
Highly developed design aesthetic and graphic design abilities
Excellent design abilities, along with an understanding of how to translate data into easy to understand graphical representations
4+ years of experience in data visualization
Experience in d3
Expertise in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other design tools are a plus but not necessary
Designing and building data visualizations and interactive information graphics
Experience with data visualization, infographics, and some experience with responsive design, typography
Good time management skills with ability to work and pivot on multiple projects
Some experience in Excel is a plus but not necessary.
Some proficiency in data visualization software such as Tableau, Power BI, or other tools is a plus but not necessary
