What we're looking for
TLDR; looking for a passionate data storyteller who wants to create data-driven content on OpenAxis.
OpenAxis is looking for a Data Journalist Intern to produce data-driven content on the platform as we jumpstart a community of data explorers and storytellers.
We seek an individual who enjoys conducting research on salient topics and using data to tell insightful stories. If you keep abreast the media landscape and like thinking about the best way to communicate data by creating interesting charts, you’ll love this role.
You'll partner with our CEO to periodically tell stories with data, publishing content on OpenAxis as well as other social media channels.
OpenAxis is developing a community of data explorers and storytellers. As an in house data journalist, you’ll be one of the first creators to jumpstart this community with quality data content— the same way users create and share audio/visual content on Reddit, Instagram, Tiktok, Github, or Substack, you’ll be doing it with data and charts on the new home for data storytelling, OpenAxis.
OpenAxis: Mission
OpenAxis (Techstars ‘21) is a venture-backed startup simplifying and democratizing data storytelling. It is a platform where anyone can easily share and visualize data to tell stories.
We believe that by equipping people with transparent data and simple tools, communities will crowdsource insights and come to their own data-informed conclusions on topics that matter.
As we build a community of data explorers and storytellers, we will engender a culture of data literacy and transparency.
Responsibilities:
Research, identify, and upload salient public datasets to the platform
Create interesting and informative data visualizations on the platform
Help write data-driven blog posts and curate the company newsletter
Help with content marketing across social media channels
The Ideal Candidate has:
Interest and experience conducting research and analysis on salient topics in the media, including but not limited to politics, economics, climate, health, media, tech etc.
Decent media diet
Experience creating charts on Excel or other tools
Interest in writing and producing data driven content (i.e., telling stories with data)
Good time management skills in a fast paced startup environment
Enthusiasm
