Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team dedicated to recovering rare earth elements in a rare earth metal refinery. You will leverage your extensive experience and contribute significantly to this cutting-edge process, ensuring efficient and responsible extraction of these critical resources for clean energy technologies, electric vehicles, and advanced electronics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop specialized mechanical systems using CAD software, tailored for rare earth metal refining, including the design of pilot and commercial equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including chemical engineers, metallurgists, and process engineers, to integrate mechanical systems into refining technologies and optimize processes.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and analysis to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems within refining processes.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation optimized for rare earth metal refining and vendor manufacturing.
  • Conduct system and unit testing to ensure the functionality and performance of mechanical systems.
  • Conduct prototype testing and validation specific to rare earth metal refining requirements.
  • Identify and resolve design issues or discrepancies through analysis and troubleshooting
  • Provide technical support and guidance to manufacturing teams during production ramp-up and troubleshooting, ensuring efficient refining operations.
  • Participate in design reviews to gather feedback, project meetings, and brainstorming sessions to contribute innovative solutions tailored for rare earth metal refining.
  • Adhere to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality refining technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering within metals production or a related sector, particularly in high-temperature production environments.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB), experience with Onshape preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes specific to metal refining.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on refining technology challenges.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks based on refining technology needs.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to mechanical design and safety in rare earth metal refining.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and additive manufacturing tailored for rare earth metal refining applications is a plus.
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments, demonstrating adaptability and efficiency in meeting project deadlines and objectives.
