Who We Are Looking For:
Phoenix Tailings is seeking a Research Manager with a strong focus on securing and managing grants while supporting cutting-edge research and development initiatives. This role is integral to advancing Phoenix Tailings’ mission to revolutionize sustainable metallurgy and critical metals production. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in grant writing, compliance, and management, along with a technical background to collaborate effectively with R&D teams.
As the Research Manager, you will drive funding opportunities, ensure compliance with grant requirements, and contribute to the strategic growth of the company's research initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify grant opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, and other funding sources aligned with the company’s research objectives.
- Collaborate with technical teams to craft compelling grant proposals that align with funding agency requirements and project goals.
- Lead the preparation of detailed budgets, technical narratives, and application documents to ensure timely submission of grant applications.
- Tailor proposals to highlight Phoenix Tailings’ innovative technologies and commitment to sustainability.
- Oversee the entire lifecycle of awarded grants, including tracking milestones, deliverables, and reporting deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with all grant requirements, including financial reporting, progress updates, and regulatory and IP reporting obligations.
- Work closely with finance and accounting teams to monitor project budgets and ensure proper allocation of funds
- Act as the primary liaison between Phoenix Tailings and external funding agencies, maintaining strong relationships with grant providers and stakeholders.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including R&D, finance, and operations, to ensure all research project projects are executed efficiently and meet all objectives.
- Stay updated on funding trends, emerging technologies, and potential partnerships in the clean tech and mining industries.
- Contribute to the development of the company’s R&D strategy by identifying new funding opportunities and fostering collaborations with research partners.
- Oversee and manage the development, protection, and strategic expansion of the organization's intellectual property (IP) portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets, to align with research and business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in grant writing, research management, or technical project management, preferably in the clean tech or mining industries.
- Proven track record of securing and managing grants for R&D projects.
- Strong technical acumen to understand and effectively communicate complex scientific concepts in grant proposals.
- Expertise in grant compliance, budget management, and financial reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to craft compelling grant applications and reports.
- Ability to manage multiple grants and ensure adherence to deadlines and requirements.
- Proactive in identifying funding opportunities and aligning them with company goals.
