7.1 Mechanical Engineer - Leadership Development Program
Phoenix Tailings
Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical systems and subassemblies for rare earth metallization equipment, including high-temperature, corrosive, and vacuum-compatible components with scalability and first principles in mind.
- Perform thermal, structural, and fluid dynamics analysis using hand calculations and simulation tools to validate mechanical integrity.
- Translate conceptual designs into manufacturable components through CAD modeling and developing engineering drawings
- Own full lifecycle of prototype builds from CAD and vendor coordination to fabrication, assembly, testing, and iteration
- Work directly on the floor to resolve mechanical issues, validate performance, and implement design improvements quickly
- Collaborate cross-functionally with chemical, materials, controls, sourcing, production, and commercial teams to drive projects forward and deliver results under tight timelines.
- Lead equipment installation and scaling efforts across pilot and production systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Hands-on experience designing or building hardware for high-temperature, chemically reactive, or vacuum systems
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, controls, and mechanical design principles
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) and mechanical analysis tools (e.g., COMSOL or equivalent)
- Track record of solving ambiguous interdisciplinary problems in high-intensityenvironments and owning end-to-end projects
- Hands-on fabrication or prototyping experience (machining, welding, assembly)
- Deep interest in clean energy, industrial systems, and scaling physical technology from a lab and R&D setting to commercial production.
- Resilience under pressure and a growth mindset. You see challenges as fuel, not roadblocks.
